'Ultimate Icon'
As part of its upcoming 40th anniversary celebrations, BBC Radio 2 is
inviting its listeners to vote for their 'Ultimate Icon' - an enduring
personality that they believe best represents popular culture over the past
four decades. The winner will be announced on Radio 2 on September 30th
during a special day of programming to mark the network's 40th birthday in
which Terry Wogan will introduce a variety of Radio 2 highlights including a
special recording of Pick Of The Pops With Smashie And Nicey; an edition of
The Kenny Everett Radio Show; classic comedy from Round The Horne and the
return of Paul Hollingdale, Ed Stewart and Michael Aspel to the network.
My vote will be for Johnnie Walker.

My vote is for Chris Evans and Davina McCall. They're so funny.

"Popular culture" extends beyond a list of Radio 2 personalities, you
know.
What about Jimmy Savile? Cilla? Gilbert and George? Peter Davidson? It
doesn't appear to have to be British... Heino? Edna Everage? Ron
Jeremy?
Does it have to be someone still living? If not, Leslie Crowther would
get my vote.
