Reader comments from The Times online re SK on Monday
this presenter should not try to read newpaper review most morning its
totaly incomprehensible, it is so dificult to follow any story that
she is taking about except the cats her personal bias comes clear in
her selection and slat of the stories which is frankly not up to BBC
standards. I would say that she was drunk at times or that what it
sounds like to listerners.
daily listerner
peter holloway, swansea,
Sarah Kennedy should be sacked. She can not read an article from the
paper without hesitating, and if she chooses to come up with an
opinion of her own its often in very poor taste. Endless purile
comments (are they supposed to be jokes?) about bras, pants and
bottoms I can do without. She talks over practically every record with
her banal and witless comments. The BBC should give her a nice long
break-the listeners deserve it.
A new presenter is needed asap, she will not be missed.
Jan, Portsmouth, Hampshire
Both I and my husband should be banned from listening to SK in the
morning, the neighbours must think we are constantly rowing the amount
of shouting we do at her dreadful attempts at humour and her dire
summary of news stories. We listen because the travel is very useful
at that time in the morning. We also have become very adept at
predicting when she intends to throw a 'sickie', it must be very
difficult to find someone to fill in at such short notice in the early
hours.
Frances, Bradford, West Yorkshire
have off days, I am not always in the best of health and sometimes I
make mistakes. Luckily I don't have several thousand people listening
to me. Give the lady a break, she makes my journey to work enjoyable.
Llion Hughes, brynteg, anglesey
SWs, de Wikipedia:
"She frequently reads out the expression "SWs to you" from listeners
who write in. "SWs" is shorthand for "Love the show" (as in the
oft-quoted phrase by Steve Wright on his programmes, hence the use of
his initials). Many listeners write in to ask what "SWs" actually
means, but she rarely explains it."
Phillip McKann, Kent,
I find SK the most annoying person to listen to. She isn't that
bright, makes the most ridiculous comments, whether she's ill or not,
and the way she pronounces people's names (particularly when they are
from overseas) when she's not familiar with them beggars belief. This
is normal behaviour for her, even when she's not ill. She refused to
play an Amy Winehouse track last week (because she didn't like it!)
saying they could sack her if they wanted to! Maybe it's about time
they did. I am sure she's very popular with middle England (she does
seem to speak their language) but I think we could all do with a new
start. She's been doing this show for 13 or more years for heaven's
sake. Give some new DJs a chance (although please, please not someone
like Chris Moyles!).
Tracey, Wallington, Surrey
Leave Sarah alone! have you never felt under the weather? I think she
should be praised for coming in when not feeling well, typical of her
not to let anyone down.. come on where is your loyalty?
Diane Holmfirth Huddersfield West yorkshire, Huddersfiekd, West
yorkshire
"I would dearly love to know what the meaning of SW's is."
Gillian, "SWs to you" - which Sarah often reads out from listeners -
is shorthand for "Love the show" - which listeners to Steve Wright
often say to him on his show. Listeners often write in and ask her
what "SWs" means, but she rarely explains it!
Andrew Rutherford, Manchester,
Time Sarah was pensioned off. Time for someone younger and more in
tune with 21st century listeners. I switched my bedside radio/alarm
over from Radio 2 long ago as listening to Sarah first thing in the
morning put me in such a foul mood. She is amateur, unprofessional,
and irritating. Constantly interrupting the music to make silly,
unfunny comments; adding train/ferry/animal/etc noises to the travel
news (if that was ever amusing, once, long ago, it's just tiresome
now); rambling and dithering through the paper reviews; it's all
pathetic. Get someone with some professionalism and talent on in the
morning slot. Someone who wakes you up in a good mood.....
.....while we are on the subject, ditto for Chris Evans. He's useless
too.
.....and don't get me started on Jonathon Ross.....
Paul, Lutterworth, England
Stop having a go at the poor girl, do you never have an off day at
work!!
Dereck Staines, St Albans, Hertfordshire.
Sarah often mispronounces words in the paper review. I've always
thought it is because she is saying one thing and reading the next
thing ready to say it. I listened yesterday morning and though you
could tell she was under the weather, she did not sound anything like
as bad as this report suggests. As a fellow throat and sinus sufferer,
I think she does jolly well to sound as good as she does when she is
suffering, and regular listeners will know that Sarah is prone to
sinus and throat problems. This report makes it sound as if she is
losing her marbles which is very unfair.
Avril Field-Taylor, Hull, UK
Sarah Kennedy's show has had it's day and I hope that, following
today's performance, she will be replaced.
I know that a minority of listeners think she is quirky and amusing,
but I think the majority would rather see her go quietly and allow us
to have somebody who is not so tiresome in the mornings.
By the way you say she had difficulty in reading a newspaper review
today, that is not unusual, it is the norm.
Garry Gilbert, Weymouth, Dorset
How does the woman keep her job, she is often off sick and makes the
most innappropriate comments. She really does not think before she
speaks. Dawn patrollers would soon get used to a new presenter. She
said this morning it was a sinus problem, so is it sinus or throat?
Couldn't hear any evidence of a blocked nose this morning and one day
in bed doesn't cure a sinus problem but may help with an over
indulgent weekend and no sleep. Come clean Sarah we pay your wages.
Angela, Newcastle under Lyme, England
If she is ill, fine. But she should not be on air croaking away, it
makes the rest of us feel ill and it makes bad radio. She is ill so
often perhaps it is time for her to spend more time with her cats and
someone more lively take over the slot.
George Grenville, Oxford,
--------------------------------------------------------------
I'd geartily recommend reading the SK thread on Digital Spy too. Very
amusing.
Will she back tomorrow?

Well she is in good company then, sharing the honour with most of the
recent prim-time presenters - Vine, Evens (despite his years of

I forget who the guy was who covered for SK yesterday, but I found him
almost unlistenable. Stumbling over his words, and lots of um's and er's.
Strange that (to me) it's a somewhat endearing habit of Mark Radcliffe,
but this chap was really irritating. Perhaps it was nerves wot did it.

So why do you want Radio 2 to change for you?
Just listen to the stations you do like!

That's why I *don't* like Radcliffe. It's not remotely endearing IMO.

TBF, he was could have been woken up at 4am and told he needs to cover
a programme in two hours - no preparation, just given a play list and
running order, if that!...
I see that got AL extra 1.5 hrs this morning (they must have arranged
to keep the Birmingham broom-cupboard patched in for longer!).

I am referring to your previous argument, where *you* wanted to change R2,
in spite of the fact that it suits most of its listeners.

TBF, he was could have been woken up at 4am and told he needs to cover
a programme in two hours - no preparation, just given a play list and

I see that got AL extra 1.5 hrs this morning (they must have arranged

I think you're missing the point Jerry. Most of those posts, and there
are many many more on DS and Holymoly, cite her sheer
unprofessionalism.

Strange that (to me) it's a somewhat endearing habit of Mark Radcliffe,
but this chap was really irritating. Perhaps it was nerves wot did it.
