Sorry to do a Mike Terry but
for some reason this item on the BBC News site doesn't seem to have
been posted iin here.

Slurring presenter blames illness

Sarah Kennedy joined the Radio 2 team in 1997
BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Sarah Kennedy has blamed a sore throat for
slurring her speech live on air throughout her early morning show.
The 57-year-old presenter mispronounced words and stumbled over
sentences which prompted fans to raise concerns for her health on the
station's website.

One listener described her show as "horrid to listen to".

A Radio 2 spokesperson said she has been in bed all day and "is
confident she will be on-form" tomorrow.

'Breathing problem'

Dedicated listeners to the show began posts on the Radio 2
messageboard.

One wrote: "She said she had a breathing problem and was seeing her
doctor today.

"Could I tactfully make a suggestion... perhaps it would be better for
all concerned if Sarah was given some time off until she has totally
recovered."

In 1999, Kennedy took a week off work suffering from exhaustion after
making a series of inappropriate on-air comments which drew complaints
from listeners.

She called a clergyman an "old prune", described fellow DJ Ken Bruce
as an "old fool" and accused a newsreader of soiling her underwear.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is that exhaustion as in 'exhausted as a newt'?

Well that's wrong, I used to sometimes listen to her in '95 / '96 in
the same slot as she is doing now, I also remember that 'chit-chat' at
the change over between AL and SK sometimes left one wondering if the
two were actually more than good friends!

I was getting excited when first reading this thinking it was a press
release lifted from the BBC announcing the presenters retirement!! Sadly not
and it looks like she'll be here a bit longer then!!

I'm sorry but you can't blame 'slurring' your words on a sore throat! I
reckon she's been drinking too much wine the night before and still
suffering the side effects!!

If you bother to actually listen to the show, via the listen again
page, you would hear that she wasn't slurring her voice but not
announcing certain syllables etc. - this is constant with a throat
infection - in slurring, the syllables are still present but are just
wrong!

"Th Bis op of Cantabur" = infected throat

"Thu Bishhoop ov Cuntabarry" = slurring

Well that's wrong, I used to sometimes listen to her in '95 / '96 in
the same slot as she is doing now, I also remember that 'chit-chat' at
the change over between AL and SK sometimes left one wondering if the
two were actually more than good friends!

Quite possible, there is a very bad chest infection doing the rounds

A throat infection is highly likely to clear up quickly with a day of rest.

With correct and proper medical help / advice that is quite possible,
you are allowing your dislike for a presenter to get in the way of the
facts.

Well that's wrong, I used to sometimes listen to her in '95 / '96 in
the same slot as she is doing now, I also remember that 'chit-chat' at
the change over between AL and SK sometimes left one wondering if the
two were actually more than good friends!

I was getting excited when first reading this thinking it was a press

and it looks like she'll be here a bit longer then!!

I'm sorry but you can't blame 'slurring' your words on a sore throat! I
