Wogan rapped over Radio 2 self-promotion
By Yvette Mackenzie
Broadcast Now

Terry Wogan has been reprimanded by the BBC Editorial Complaints Unit for
flagging up his UKTV Gold chatshow on his Radio 2 breakfast show.

The BBC recognised that interest in Wogan's activities on and off air is
inevitable and said sometimes there is editorial justification for certain
references to presenters lives outside the BBC. But the regulatory unit
deemed references to the DJ's chat show, Wogan: Now and Then, broadcast on
30 January and 2 and 6 February contravened BBC guidelines.

Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas had already discussed references to
Wogan's autobiography with him, and there were none in the editions
investigated which went beyond what was editorially justified.

The most recent Rajar figures show Wogan is the UK's most popular breakfast
show host with over 7.8 million listeners every week. His series on UKTV
features interviews with new guests as well as looking back at interviews
from his BBC1 chatshow in the 1980s and early 1990s. The show began in
January last year.

What's the problem anyway? I don't recall ever seeing anything on UKG
that *wasn't* originally from the BBC...
