How does that happen?
Just listening to the Jonathan Ross programme (don't worry - it's safe
- he's not on this week - the much more sensible and credible Mark
Lamarr and Jo Brand are "in for him"). Guests include Nick Lowe and
Hank Marvin, so I'm recording it on my little PC-based USB Freeview tuner.
As a backup, I have the Sky box tuned to R2 and I'm recording it on
the DCD-R machine downstairs.
Still with me?
Anyway, the mid-day news comes on. On the Freeview tuner, it's a man
reading the news. On the DigiSkyBox, it's... a woman. Same channel.
Same news items (same recorded inserts) - different newsreader.
How does that work? And what's the point?

They're certainly getting their moneysworth out of ML this weekend. He did
his normal Saturday morning show from midnight to 3am and was then back on
at 10:00am covering for Wossy. AFAIK neither of these shows are recorded in
advance.
I actually don't like it when they pair Lamarr up with someone, it gives him
too much temptation to launch into one of his lengthy, opinionated, show-off
rants. Jo Brand was, surprisingly - she's been good before, quite dull from
what I heard today (I gave up part-way through the Nick Lowe interview and
switched over to Rick Wakeman on Planet Rock). When Lamarr doesn't have a
foil he is more inclined to speak knowledgeably about the music that he
loves, which I much prefer to listen to.

Re: How does that happen?
How bizarre?? I'm not aware of this or in fact what the BBC would achieve by
doing it?? Maybe it's a way of 'testing' new newsreaders by putting them on
the DSAT feed rather than DAB, Freeview or FM?
Can anyone else shed light on this??

they don't have for terrestrial....!

I haven't tried this (because I heard it anyway and have a recording),
but I understand you can hear the interview again, either on the Beeb
website "Listen Again" facility or by DLing an edited MP3 from:
<http://www.4shared.com/file/16756038/2bf88c34/HankRadio2.html>
Hank does have a new album out in early June. I understand that he has
several other meeja appearances lined up:
TUESDAY MAY 29th:
BBC TV BREAKFAST NEWS 8.15am - 9-15am interview
CHANNEL 5 TV NEWS interview
WEDNESDAY MAY 30th:
SKY NEWS interview
THURSDAY MAY 31st:
GMTV performance TRACK tbc & interview
SUNDAY JUNE 3rd:
BBC1 TV HEAVEN & EARTH
live performance SUMMER HOUSE & interview
....but not a tour.

Could be. Do Radio 1 still do a separate South East travel news opt out on
Wrotham ? They certainly used to.

I haven't tried this (because I heard it anyway and have a recording),
but I understand you can hear the interview again, either on the Beeb
website "Listen Again" facility or by DLing an edited MP3 from:
<http://www.4shared.com/file/16756038/2bf88c34/HankRadio2.html>
Hank does have a new album out in early June. I understand that he has
several other meeja appearances lined up:
TUESDAY MAY 29th:
BBC TV BREAKFAST NEWS 8.15am - 9-15am interview
CHANNEL 5 TV NEWS interview
WEDNESDAY MAY 30th:
SKY NEWS interview
THURSDAY MAY 31st:
GMTV performance TRACK tbc & interview
SUNDAY JUNE 3rd:
BBC1 TV HEAVEN & EARTH
live performance SUMMER HOUSE & interview
....but not a tour.

Could be. Do Radio 1 still do a separate South East travel news opt out on
Wrotham ? They certainly used to.

<http://www.4shared.com/file/16756038/2bf88c34/HankRadio2.html>
Hank does have a new album out in early June. I understand that he has
several other meeja appearances lined up:
TUESDAY MAY 29th:
BBC TV BREAKFAST NEWS 8.15am - 9-15am interview
CHANNEL 5 TV NEWS interview
WEDNESDAY MAY 30th:
SKY NEWS interview
THURSDAY MAY 31st:
GMTV performance TRACK tbc & interview
SUNDAY JUNE 3rd:
BBC1 TV HEAVEN & EARTH
live performance SUMMER HOUSE & interview
....but not a tour.

very informative message board at:
