Holiday watch
Just a quick note to say that Ken Bruce is on holiday next week and Dermot
O'Leary is taking over. Also Richard Hammond is doing a special programme
on Good Friday afternoon.

I notice that Dermot has also (reportedly) been signed up to do the "X
Factor" presentation, replacing Kate Thornton. Given that, when the live "X
Factor" rounds kick in in October, how is he going to manage doing his R2
Saturday afternoon show when he should be at the studio doing the runthrough
for those? Will he pre-record Saturday afternoon for R2 or will he be
replaced?

Hmm, Chris Evans back and Kermit O'dreary all in one week, the mind boggles.
Thank the Lord I'm also on holiday. :-)

We can only hope!!!
I'm not looking forward to hearing two weeks of Dermot standing in for KB as
I don't like his style in any way! I reckon Lesley Douglas has had to use
him as a last option as R2 have lost Mark Goodier to Smooth, presumably
Richard Allinson's also unavailable to cover?

If he's still doing his weekday 9am-11am live show on BFBS Radio 2, that

It's interesting that they haven't gone through all the unnecessary
rigmarole this time of shipping Alex Lester down from Birmingham to cover
for Ken Bruce, whilst shipping someone else UP to Birmingham to cover for
Alex. Perhaps sanity has returned?

Alex Lester would have been a really good choice in my opinion. I'm baffled
as to why the BBC would need to 'ship' presenters around when whoever does
Alex's show could simply broadcast 03:00 - 06:00 from London?? Maybe Mr
Lester was asked to cover but has other Easter plans?

It was rather ridiculous, the last time that Alex covered for KB, that they
moved him down to use KB's studio in London, rather than him broadcasting
from The Mailbox. Likewise that Tim Smith, who normally works out of London,
was sent to Birmingham to broadcast overnight from The Mailbox. It seems
absurd in this digital age - unless it was solely down to availability of
studios (for example, "The Archers" may have been recording during the day
in Birmingham).

No, scrub that - RA's on "holiday" for two weeks from that too.

Every time I've been there during the day, the network radio studios have
been deserted.

It's interesting that they haven't gone through all the unnecessary
rigmarole this time of shipping Alex Lester down from Birmingham to cover
for Ken Bruce, whilst shipping someone else UP to Birmingham to cover for
Alex. Perhaps sanity has returned?
