Chart Commentary 23/12/06 - the correct version this time!
First of all, apologies for the accidental early posting -
I issued a cancel, but it may have been too late for some of you.

I filled in the name of the X-Factor winner this morning, but pressed
the wrong button when I'd finished editing it.

Singles
-------
TT top again, yawn.

It looks like it'll take the mighty publicity machine of X-Factor to
shift them, next week.

NE's (incl.D/L climbers)

Top 10 : Cliff Richard #2, Gwen Stefani #3, Cascada #4, Chris Cornell
#7, P Diddy #8
Top 20 : Katie & Peter #12, Crazy Frog #16, Lil Chris #17, Andy Abraham
#18, Matt Willis #19, El Chombo #20
Top 30 : Lily Allen #21, Ricky Tomlinson #25
Top 40 : Shakira #34, Snoop Dogg #38

A mention should be made of the Pogues & Kirsty McColl, who climbed from
#23 to #10, almost entirely on download sales. Also, to their credit,
radio 1 didn't cut the 'Cheap lousy faggot' line.

BTW, was it just me, or did they completely miss announcing the #33,
except during the rundown at the end?

Albums
------
A 3rd consecutive double for TT.

Nothing new in the top 20, and barely anything moving at all. Only Snow
Patrol climbed significantly - for no reason I can see.

Further down, there were huge climbs for two Lionel Richie albums - was
he on some TV show?

Next Week
---------
Singles
-------
It a foregone conclusion that the Leona, the X-Factor winner, will be
the Xmas #1 - the only issue is just how many she will sell. Any
guesses?

Several hundred thousand doesn't seem unreasonable, based on precedent -
and for an X-Factor song, it's not the worst I've heard.

If there hadn't been an embargo on downloads until midnight, it might
well have made significant inroads into this weeks chart, too. I dare
say we may find there have been some leaks anyway.

NE's (incl.D/L climbers)

Top 10 : Girls Aloud, McFly, Razorlight
Top 20 : James Morrison, Queen v Miami Project
Top 30 : Mary J Blige, Micky Modelle
Top 40 : All Angels

Download only : Sharam

Albums
------
Gotta go with Take That again.

Nothing new in the top 20.

************************************************************************

As if my chart predictions aren't hard enough now - when the new rules
kick in, they'll be almost impossible!

I'd need to know when songs are first released on download, rather than
CD, and if an oldie gets sung on a popular TV show, the download sales
boost might be enough to chart it!
