Chart Commentary 29/4/06
Singles
-------
Gnarls Barkley holds off Rihanna's challenge to remain at #1 for a 4th
week.
As is becoming the pattern, most of the 'new' entries are in fact
singles which charted the previous week on download sales only.
Top 10 : Rihanna(c) #2, Infernal(c) #4, Fall Out Boy(c) #8
Top 20 : Deep Dish(c) #14, Michael Jackson #15, Flaming Lips(c) #16,
Blaze #17, Soundbwoy Ent(c) #18, Richard Ashcroft(c) #20
Top 30 : Snow Patrol(d) #30
Top 40 : Juanes #32, A-Ha #39
(c) = charted last week on downloads
(d) = charts on download sales alone
Albums
------
No surprise that Shayne Ward hits #1 comfortably, but even so, his sales
aren't as high as might have been expected, give the amount of
pre-orders hinted at.
The Zutons are the unlucky ones, having to settle for #2.
Peter Grant (who?) enters at #8 & The Charlatans at #10.
Richard Ashcroft jumps 26 places to #15 for no obvious reason (his new
single shouldn't have boosted it *that* much).
Next Week
---------
Singles
-------
Looks like a 5th week for Gnarls, as none of the songs that charted
early on downloads look strong enough to overtake him, nor any of this
week's new releases, or next week's potential early download charters.
Top 10 : Will Young, Snow Patrol, RHCP (d/l)
Top 20 : Michael Jackson, Nina Simone, Chris Brown, Chicane, Dirty
Pretty Things, Raconteurs
Top 30 : HIM, Notorious BIG
Top 40 : Beatfreakz(d/l)
Albums
------
I think Shayne Ward will hold on at #1, albeit on a much reduced sales
figure.
ISTM that Gnarls is likely to be the highest NE, but I wouldn't like to
say where - top 10 probably.
The Boss will probably also go top 10, with Mark Knopfler/Emmylou Harris
top 20.
