Chart Commentary 22/4/06
Singles
-------
So, no change at #1, despite Shayne Ward's best (or worst, depending on
your pov) efforts.
Rihanna makes an impressive debut at #5 on download sales alone, and
must be a possibility to shift Gnarls next week. Nothing else new in the
top 10 though.
Top 20 : Hard-Fi #13(c), Trina #15(c), Jamie Foxx #16(c), Michael
Jackson #19
Top 30 : Fall Out Boy #26(d), Gorillaz #27, Studio b #28(c), Lorraine
#29
Top 40 : Infernal #34(d)
(c) = climber due to CD release, (d) = entered on downloads alone
3 climbers within top 40, and 5 from outside. The least explicable
climber has to be Chico - WTF did he leap back from #26 to #14?
I am delighted to see Infernal chart early on downloads - IMO the best
dance track of the year so far!
Albums
------
An easy #1 position for The Streets, but in a sparse week for new
releases, the only other top 20 NE was Hayley Westenra at #16.
Most of the album money went to NTWICM 63 of course, which sold far more
than any artist album.
Next Week

Singles
-------
As I mention above, Rihanna must be considered a serious challenger to
Gnarls Barkley, but I suspect the latter will hold on for a 4th week at
#1.
Top 10 : Infernal, Fall Out Boy
Top 20 : Michael Jackson, Flaming Lips
Top 30 : A-Ha, Blaze, NIN, Richard Ashcroft, Juanes, Russell Watson
Top 40 : Damien Marley, Daniel Powter, Deep Dish, Katie Melua, Soundbwoy
Possible download-only-charters : Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, Will
Young - all depend on their virtual release date though.
Albums
------
Shayne Ward surely #1 by a significant margin, though probably lasting
no longer at the top than his fellow X-Factor competitors. The Zutons
should claim a top 5 placing, and the Charlatans should be good for a
top 20 place at least.
