OT : Britney song to debut at US number one
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a182026/britney-song-to-debut-at-us-number-one.html

Bodes well for its UK release (8th Nov, apparently).

So when that builds up, she'll do even better.

This years UK #1 singles have averaged 68k - of which it's safe to say
65k will have been downloads.

As you say, UK downloads haven't yet reached a plateau, though there
does seem to be some levelling off now. At the start of 2009, sales were
40% up on 2008, now they are just 15% up.

Both of which are very close to the averages I've calculated for this
year's sales.

It sold 254,640 copies on download, which was probably enough to give it
the edge on the Hot 100. I can't imagine its airplay has been massive.

Incidentally, sales at the top end of the US digital sales chart now
seem to be levelling out - after a few years of continuing growth for
the past few months it's become the norm to see the number one digital
song selling between 200,000 and 260,000 copies. There appears to be no
growth any more.

Relatively speaking, UK sales continue to grow faster. 250,000 digital
sales in the US is equivalent to about 50,000 sales here. The number 10
on the new US Digital chart sold 105,564 which equals to about 21,000 in
the UK and the number 40 has sold 31,170, equivalent to about 6,000
sales in the UK.
