John. my curiosity has got the better of me. Does the '[]' have any
meaning? I've often wondered whether they were a smilie of some sort.

I always use [...] and believe this to be more wildly (TWATBILI) known 
than without the dots (which I've never seen before and hadn't spotted 
or recognised for what it was until you explained). However, it could be 
that nobody's ever known what I was on about either. :o)))
