Probably where you got the deck would be a good start (especially if the
Radio Times - their ad.s for decks usually include spares of that sort).

Maplin sell five types - see
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=stylus&source=15&SD=Y
(scroll down past the non-record styli).

amazon do at least one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/202-5230737-3184616?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=stylus&x=0&y=0
(I didn't check the second and third pages; there is one on the first).

I wouldn't go for ebay unless you're very sure what cartridge you have
(knowing the deck model might not be enough - the cartridge is the bit
at the end of the arm into which the stylus fits, and can be made by a
different company to the deck).

There might be a "posh" hi-fi shop (or section inside a department
store) in your town - try there. (Ideally, take the cartridge - or just
the old stylus of course.)

I'm not saying you don't, but what has led you to the conclusion that
you need a new one?

<http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Grim-Reapers-Greatest-Hits/dp/B000E6ENYE/>

Those who use the iTunes store can find a playlist in iTunes
essentials called "Rest in Peace" which has 72 death-related tracks,
not all of which count as true death discs, though.

Alan Clayson's book on the same subject, "Death Discs: an Account of
Fatality in the Popular Song" might be worth a read, although it is
out of print.

Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went And cannot come again.

<beam> Thanks MOPMOB. I'll give that a look. And it's high time I got out
my LP of Jan & Dean's Greatest Hits and played Dead Man's Curve again. (And
Surf City and The Little Old Lady From Pasadena[1], of course.)

DMC has one of the very finest spoken verses of the era (right up there with
Are You Lonesome Tonight and Leader Of The Pack, IMO):

Well, the last thing I remember, doc, I started to swerve
And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve
I know I'll never forget that haaawrubble sight
I guess I found out for myself that everyone was right..
<chorus>
You won't come back from Dead Man's Curve...

Classic stuff.

She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard..
(go granny, go granny, go grany, go)
Well she's gonna get a ticket now sooner or later

I just can't understand why these gems aren't in the Oxford Book of American
Verse.

Oooh! There used to be two girls' magazines called Roxy and Marilyn.
When they did a programme on comics and magazines recently they didn't
mention those, but I used to read them and one of them, not sure
which, had a special offer. You sent for, can't recall if free, a
record of Elvis singing and speaking 'Are you lonesome tonight' and it
came with a script and he spoke and paused and you could read the
other bits.I played scenes with Elvis!

Well, I know I enjoyed an evening of frivolity, but we only consumed one
bottle of wine between 4. Nevertheless, I seem to be woolly-headed at
the moment because I just don't understand the line. Probably no BTN
unless someone explains and the recent outbreak of "smites brow" continues.

"Bridgend, suicide capital of Great Britain" is one headline from this
year. Most of the suicides have been by teenagers.

A little out-of-date surely? This story appears to have died some time
ago; no wonder PP needed to be reminded of the context. You can't keep
these topical references hanging about forever.
