Was this just for fun, or were you burning it for a practical reason, 
such as cooking, lighting, or heating?

I've often thought that it seems a waste of (calorific) energy to throw 
out oils and fats (of which we have more than we can use for cooking 
purposes). Unfortunately, they tend to burn rather smokily (not to 
mention smellily) if you try to use them domestically. I was pleased to 
hear the various stories on here about how some authorities are 
collecting them/it/whatever, but it sounds somewhat half-hearted; I'm 
sure that, in proper facilities, the energy could be recovered in a 
useful manner.
