Exactly.
Adam hesitated - after all Brian has given him the AD business - and
is likely to back Matt and turn his back on the village.
Mind you after Mat's blackmail of Deeavid I was surprised David would
have anything to do with him.

How will this work then? Debbie, Adam and BL are part of Ambridge Heat and
Power. But the digester itself is going to be put on Home Farm land which
Brian still owns and is, of course, a BL shareholder. So what if Adam
decides to walk away from the AD. Can Debbie still just plonk it on the
farm?

He was rather bounced into the original agreement with BL, as I
recall. I got the feeling that this was one of the reasons that he
chose to just walk away from the deal, rather than staying to fight a
bit longer. He couldn't face having continual battles with Matt over
every decision.

Brian could still choose to rent the land to Ambridge Sound and Fury,
even if it was purely a BL concern. Whether he would choose to do so
(or at least, whether he would want to do so at a rent BL would be
willing to pay) is another matter.
If Adam left the project, there would be less reason to site the AD on
Home Farm, as they wouldn't be using it to heat the poly tunnels, so
BL might well choose to move it onto their own land anyway.

Could BL go ahead without Adam or David to help run it? They didn't
have the expertise. Or will Anabel's new expert run it? I can't
understand why they didn't just vote BL out and find another partner.

I assume they'd have to employ a manager to run it for them or, if
they didn't want to invest any additional capital to replace the money
that Brookfield and Home Farm would have provided, look for an
alternative partner who did have the necessary expertise. I suspect
that Adam will stay involved though, with both Matt and Debbie making
his life a misery.

Two reasons. First, Debbie seems quite happy with BL and Adam is
wavering, so there isn't a clear majority opposing BL. Second, they
had already asked everyone else they could think of, who might have
been interested, and only asked BL because they couldn't find a more
congenial partner.

I'd rather assumed we were being set up for the first "test" of the new Home
Farm arrangements with war breaking out between Adam and Debbie and Brian
rubbing Jennifer's nose in it about it's all her fault for making him split
things the way he has.

Is the canning factory site available? I always assumed it was sited on
the tattier side of Borchester, and it presumably has good transport
links.

Do we actually know what land BL own (do they have any "brownfield"
sites, i. e. in-town but run-down old factories/warehouses/whatever, for
example), or are they just a convenient SW resource, to be brought out
of the hat whenever necessary, as a lazy plot device?

I think the latter. That said, from what we know about BL's
activities, it wouldn't be at all surprising if they did have some
land which is more suitable than Home Farm available.

Doesn't BL own a site that was formerly a newt-infested lunatic
asylum, and which has now been de-newted (newtered?)?
Or is that already gone to housing?

lunatic asylums (sic) tended to be built out of town (green field
sites). the cambridge one[*] was decommissioned some time ago (i've
heard the tales of people visiting relatives in there in the '50s and
it sounds to have been horrific).
the cambridge site has been split -- one is modern low-rise high
density psychiatric units (including a small secure unit), and the
other has been converted to zillions of offices. the offices are
quite tall, and contain lots of health service administrators, as well
as several other enterprises. (you might imagine the health service
would be able to fill any office space available, but it seems not.)
which is to say, i would be surprised if there's many such sites still
available for conversion into giant compost heaps...
[*] built by the city council, some time c.19, with the proceeds of
the coprolite mining. (honest.)

What is (was?) the market use of coprolytes? I could see they might sell
to the souvenir or curiosity market, and perhaps to museums, but I find
it hard to believe there was enough market to pay for an asylum ... so I
presume there must have been some industrial use for them; I just can't
think what it might have been.

Coprolite (with an "i" from the Greek "lithos" meaning stone) was
mined for use as fertiliser - it is very rich in phosphate. Fisons
made their fortune from the business.

Ah, didn't realise that; I assumed it was just stone, in the right shape
(having fully fossilised). Obviously it isn't fully fossilised. (I'm
interested that it was "mined" though - makes me wonder what
circumstances caused beds of it to be laid down, making mining
practical.)
