Engendered roles in local presses
Well, I have it from a horse's mouth that it's
not possible to edit a local newspaper without
being a Freemason.

Seeing as this won't affect Rebekah Wade,
as The Sun is a national Red-Top and, in
any case, there's naught stopping Rupert
from being a worshipful brother, I wondered
what implications this may have for women
in the sector and any notions of journalism
as a meritocractic trade-cum-profession
depending where on the continuum one's
coverage is at.

Assuming it's true (and remembering it was
a newspaperman who said this) I did also
wonder what implications this has for equal
opportunities in the Police. Not to mention
how on earth MI5 is still going with <gasp>
a sheila at the helm
