19" widescreen
I'd like a 19" - or 21" if they exist - widescreen LCD for the kitchen
with FreeView tuner and at least one RGB SCART. Doesn't need to be 'Hi-Def
Ready' or have surround etc or indeed decent speakers as I use external
ones. And low cost if possible - under 200 quid. Any recommendations?

empiredirect.co.uk have a number 19" widescreens but none have
freeview at that price.

It seems strange to me there are quite a few 19" widescreen sets around
for well under 200 quid, but non with a FreeView tuner. Can't really see
the point in them. I realise I could get one and a STB for less than the
300 odd most seem to charge, but I want to save space.

I supsect the reason the 19" screens are below 200 is BECAUSE they
don't have freeview. Perhaps you'll have to wait until thw switchover,
though personally I'm quite interested in replacing an old 14" CRT
with one of those listed above.........

But this size of widescreen LCD simply wasn't around before FreeView so
someone has gone to the trouble of making them. Perhaps basically for
markets other than the UK. Although where do you get 16:9 from analogue
signals?
At the moment I have a 21" 4:3 CRT set which does 16:9 with external
Freeview box sitting on the breakfast bar - and I'd love to gain some more
space. ;-)

Looking at Tesco yesturday i noticed at least 2 lcd w/s in the 19"/20" size
range, they did not say Freeview included. There was a larger Philips which
I would think might have had digital.
Would think if you are running a 21" 4x3 at 16x9 will a 19" w/s give a
smaller picture?
I know it is changing subject to computers but I read for Vista a 23" w/s is
recomended by Microsoft. Also many LCD Tvs can be used as computer monitors
and monitors can now have TV tuners. Thus I wonder if the 23" w/s might
well become the norm.
Prices are dropping all the time, can you hang on 6 to 12 months?

That's what prompted this thread - I saw a 19" widescreen in my local
Tesco at a decent price. No information or even box to read - and it
wasn't 'on' being a small store.
> Would think if you are running a 21" 4x3 at 16x9 will a 19" w/s give a

I've got a 19" LCD computer monitor in the workshop which can be fed off a
convertor and FreeView - I wanted one screen to be able to test any video
signal - and it's just about the same size as a 21" 4:3 showing 16:9.
Slightly larger than 19" widescreen seem to rare - the next common size is
28"?

empiredirect.co.uk have a number 19" widescreens but none have
freeview at that price.

Slightly larger than 19" widescreen seem to rare - the next common size is
28"?

empiredirect.co.uk have a number 19" widescreens but none have
freeview at that price.

You'll be lucky to find something at that pricepoint with freeview,

There's always Sky or Virgin etc. plus DVD so It could be ready to
cater for those.

Slightly larger than 19" widescreen seem to rare - the next common size is
28"?

Ah - that sort of answers my last point. But I'm not sure I'd like WS for

There's always Sky or Virgin etc. plus DVD so It could be ready to
cater for those.

I know what you mean. My 32" 16:9 is quite frankly HUGE. a 37" LCD
would take up MUCH less space

That's what prompted this thread - I saw a 19" widescreen in my local
Tesco at a decent price. No information or even box to read - and it
wasn't 'on' being a small store.

I've got a 19" LCD computer monitor in the workshop which can be fed off a
convertor and FreeView - I wanted one screen to be able to test any video
signal - and it's just about the same size as a 21" 4:3 showing 16:9.
Slightly larger than 19" widescreen seem to rare - the next common size is
28"?

Ah - that sort of answers my last point. But I'm not sure I'd like WS for
my main computer monitor.

It's not possible to buy a 4:3 monitor over 21". My WS 24" is nice to use with 1920x1200.

Thanks - but that one appears to be 4:3 and no FreeView tuner.
