Advice for a home system
Hi
Sorry if this is in the wrong group - but my query covers several
requirements.
In short i am looking for a home cinema system with a DVD /HDD
recorder that can hanlde imput form my SKY box.
Idealy i want as few boxes as possible, but willing to accept some
seperates. (i never seem to get the cabling right so tend to just
whack in all the scarts and hope!!
I have an exisintg DVD home cinema box that outs to 5.1 sound, but its
almost dead, a seperate DVD recorder which is glitchy - so time to
update. My TV is an LCD and new so no need for that
All responces appreciated.
one last thing though - i realy need Video plus+ and multiregion would
be good if possible.
Thanks in advance

Looks a reasonable place to me.

As far as I know, any would. I assume that the Sky box has a SCART
output?

You'll generally get better quality with separates. Unfortunately, you
haven't given any idea of your budget, so I don't know where to pitch
ideas. Having said that, I suggest:
DVD recorder - Panasonic (the model I have seems to be discontinued,
so no point in recommending it!) - I usually find them to be reliable
and easy to use, with reasonable quality output.
Amplifier - Denon (ditto - I have an AVR-3805)
Loudspeakers - I use Epos ELS 3 (see
http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/2240).

VideoPlus isn't available with Freeview broadcasting. Are you still
limited to analogue? As far as I know, pretty much all of them have
VideoPlus these days, though.
Multiregion shouldn't be difficult. See for example
http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/3379,
which looks as if it ought to be decent enough. It also has VideoPlus.
Note that these machines don't generally come as multiregion from the
manufacturer: someone, usually the retailer, has to modify them. Some
require hardware mods, some can be hacked in software.
A possible (fairly inexpensive) amp might be
http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/2962.
(Unfortunately, you can't buy the better ones online any more - Denon
have banned it.)
I've bought from Superfi several times, and always found them to be
good.

I didnt state a budget, because im realy not sure what i need in terms
of pound notes... however the equipment you have stated is top end for
me - except the speekers which are way beyond me for the time being -
however i have a set already (old, bit crappy - but serviceable until
i can save up!).
The Amp is great - hadnt thought about it but the iPod connectivity is
excelent.
Thanks again

This is some good device.

I've bought from Superfi several times, and always found them to be
good.

which looks as if it ought to be decent enough.

I've bought from Superfi several times, and always found them to be
good.

Thanks Peter
This is some good device.
