Pirate Shrek 3 DVD
I've never actually bought a pirate DVD under the assumption that the
quality would be appalling. So when a member of her majesty's
constabulary furnished me with a copy of Shrek the Third yesterday I
wasnt shocked to find the picture so bad it was almost unwatchable. I
might give it another go tonight whilst the missus is watching big
brother.

What I dont get though, in this digital age, is why pirate dvds arent
picture perfect.

A quick check would indicate that this is a Telesync - these are filmed
in the cinema (but are usually missing the heads/laughing found in even
poorer quality CAMS). The quality of these is usually fuzzy with too
much tint & often washed out colours - due to the fact that it has been
filmed from a projector screening.

In this digital age the pirate dvd is a perfect copy of the master copy
but if the master copy is shit then, well you can't polish a turd.

because they are usually recorded by a camcorder pointed at a screen - or if
slightly better, what's called a TS.
the only decent ones will be ones which are copies of a genuine dvd - these
are often given out for review purposes etc.

Because picture perfect copies require a DVD to start from. Quite often
there are disks made for awards purposes and so on that get copied and
distibuted. If you were downloading then you'd need to look for DVD Rip or
Screener in the file name.

Telecine copies use a special machine to make a copy direct from the film
but this won't be as good as a dvd rip.

Telesync copies are basically the film recorded with a camcorder from the
projection booth.

Cam copies are filmed from the seats in the audience and are typically
appalling quality.

The best pirates will be very close to retail quality and the worst will be
almost unwatchable , but when you buy from the pikeys in the boot sales you
won't know what you are getting.

That Shrek cam conversion is particularly awful. However, you can see and
hear just about enough of it for it to come across as a pretty funny film -
and worth a trip to the flicks. Irony is not lost.

That Shrek cam conversion is particularly awful. However, you can see and
hear just about enough of it for it to come across as a pretty funny film -
and worth a trip to the flicks. Irony is not lost.

Cool. I'll probably end up watching it when it's out
