OT: Amazon
Vent.... Just decided to buy a Blu Ray player from Amazon. Figure
Saturday delivery would be too expensive, so went for "First Class"
delivery quoted at 1-2 Business Days. In stock as well.
Still says "Dispatching Soon" and gives an estimated delivery date of
14th October which will be three business days.
That's not what I signed up for. If I knew this I would have gone with
next business day!
What a load of garbage.

Is it a "stocked and sold by Amazon" or "stocked and sold by someone
else" one ?
if the latter, it would better explain why there is an apparent delay
in getting it sent out.

Stocked and sold by Amazon
Their response is
"""I understand that you have placed the order using First Class
delivery as the shipping method expecting your order to be delivered on
Saturday.
As mentioned on our web-site, the estimated delivery time after we
dispatch the order is 1-2 business days. I apologize for this
misunderstanding. There is no weekend pickup service for our One-Day
Delivery option.
A package that enters the shipping process on Friday evening, Saturday,
or Sunday does not actually reach the carrier's first hub until Monday
morning. If the package is shipped via One-Day Delivery, it should
arrive on Tuesday.
That is the reason why the estimated delivery date of your order is
showing up to be October 14, 2009.
However, please understand that we would make every effort to deliver
the packages well before the delivery estimates.
Once your order is dispatched from our Fulfilment Centre you'll receive
an e-mail confirming the date, contents and method of delivery."""
I didn't expect a Saturday delivery. I hoped for a Saturday delivery
(being first class). But I would allow a Monday or Tuesday delivery
(being one to two business days). Sometimes you do "beat the system" by
choosing First Class. But Im not complaining about that.
But what the guy says here is almost like saying there's no point
ordering on a Friday unless you request Saturday shipping! Even "next
day guaranteed" isn't worth the paper its written on if you order on a
Friday.
Im not very happy.
The reason why Im not very happy, is that Im waiting 5 days for an
instock item.
What they don't appear to tell you is the one to two days for shipping
is AFTER the dispatch. Load of waffle.

Re: Amazon
Hrm, typical.
After putting the points to them in writing (by email) about what they
say on their website isn't what they deliver, all of a sudden today,
I've got an email saying that they've shipped the item by CITY LINK, and
according to City Link, it will arrive tomorrow.
City Link website also says that the goods were collected on the 11th
October at 8.35.
Call me strange, but that sounds like next day delivery to me, over a
weekend. I wonder if they really have made a mistake?
All credit to them if that is the case. I don't mind mistakes as long as
someone is man enough to say yes, OK, we stuffed up, let us sort it for you.
I wouldn't have minded waiting til Wednesday either as long as that is
what was advertised on the website.

They use Citylink (as a option) for certain items. I ordered some Boots
(£35) and requested free (2nd class) delivery. Received them the next day.
I believe the service they use with Citylink doesnt include Saturday
delivery, unless Amazon specifies it.
Make sure you are in when citylink come-a-calling. They will try again the
next working day, but if you're not in then, you have to go to the local
depot to pick it up.

they actually try to deliver? that's news to me. not only cant they be
bothered to get out of the van to try delivery they don't leave a card to
say they've been. I know this because I live in a building with both cctv
and a concierge who actually accepts all parcels. Luckily I'm only 20
minutes from the depot so I can collect but I've never had an actual
delivery from shitylink in over 2 dozen deliveries. At least parcelfarce get
it right about half the time....

Only had 2 deliveries off citylink. The first was fine, I was in, and also
took in parcels for a neighbour too.
The 2nd time, I wasnt in, but the driver came back later to re-deliver, and
I was in at that time, so can't complain at all.
Probabaly depends on the drivers and postcodes. Everyone has good and bad
tales to tell about any delivery company!
Our local depot is in a different county (and a different borough to the
nearest out of county borough), so their definition of local is far fetched.

In Birmingham, they're absolutely amazing. One of the best delivery
companies I've ever experienced
