OT:Wireless & Ethernet Enabled Ink-Jet Printers. Any old regs left with recommendations?
My long standing HP820cxi on parallell port is pretty well shagged now - so
I am thinking about a new printer. Need not be a multifunction device but
easy integration with my home wireless network or even on Ethernet cable off
the router would be beneficial

Any pointers, anyone?

I could be wrong, but I think things like "ethernet cable off the
router" are more to do with the router than the printer. At least they
should be -otherwise you're adding a substantial cost to a single device
(ie. the printer) instead of to one device (ie. router) that would
service other items.

But more likely, you're looking for a network USB hub/
possibly-hard-disk box to do that kind of thing. At least that was the
kind of thing I was looking for a couple of years ago, but found
everything seemed too finnicky/ bug-ridden/ reliant on
possibly-nevercoming firmware updates. I'm sure things have improved
since then. Or not.

If there's anyone else still here I'm sure they'll bring news to us both. :)

I had an 870cxi - damn reliable, I only gave it away (fully working
still) a month or two ago :-}

What do you need to be able to do network-wise ? I think if you're
just printing, and it's hooked up via one permanently-on PC, you can
simply set up network printing as normal (allow sharing, add it to the
wireless machines)

Other than that, i'm not sure whether a true "network ready" printer
would be more suitable - but i'm not sure of their availability in
multi-function format :-}

Although some recent Lexmarks multi-funcs have been advertised as
wireless, I believe their performance and networkability is rather
less glossy than the advertising...

Hi TD,
Got my HP 2575 All-In-One hooked into the router via ethernet. Decent
printer, doesn't appear to suffer from any ink problems and the HP ink is a
decent price on Amazon. From what I recall they were going for less than
£50 a while ago (grits teeth cos I paid about £99 2 weeks earlier). The HP
software isn't ideal but the network interface to check ink levels etc is
fine as long as you know the printer's IP address when it's been given it.
I got my Dad one and he's printing wirelessly to it now with no problems -
wireless laptop connection to router then wired to the printer.

Hope this helps,
Keith

Hmmm

Mixed reviews, then

My HP820cxi was sharing itself quite nicely with my laptop until a few weeks
ago. I think my firewall is messing with it now though so for the sake of
£50 get a wireless printer and then it doesn't matter if my home PC is
switched on either. And something new to play with :-)

Cheers to all

Tricky
