avast is the other free one that gets regularly suggested.

Re: OT:Best free AV software?

I get called in to fix malware / virus infected PCs on a regular
basis, and although I don't have personal experience of the new
release of AVG, I can tell you that every infected machine I was
called to with AVG installed had at least two active viruses.

There are two free AV apps that I would recommend:

a) Avast
b) Avira

Of the two, Avira has better detection, but is a little *too*
paranoid, so any keygens you have will be flagged as malicious,
whether they carry a payload or not.

When i did this is it simply output as one single file, no extension.
DVD video files are quite different.

It creates a DVD compatible mpg - you need to specify the extension when
saving the file. You then need to author the DVD, using an authoring
program. Sorry, I didn't realise you were looking for an all-in-one
solution.
