OT:How to image a harddrive?
I want to replace my harddisk.
Can anyone recommend how to take a full image copy?. I looked at Nroton
Ghost but you appear to have to install it on the pc and its bloatwear. I
am ideally looking for something bootable that i dont need to install. Any
ideas?

Use the boot wizard to make a pair of boot floppies for Ghost, remove
ghost from your system if you wish, then boot from the discs and do a
local disc to disc transfer. Just make sure you image the right way
around.

I dont have a hard disk yet. I want to make an image copy now (onto my wd
usb drive) and install on a new
drive later. so its not a direct disk to disk copy.
Any ideas?

Should just be the case of running ghost32 and doing a disc to image and
putting th image on the USB drive. If for some reason it won't do it
from within windows, you're a bit stuffed as you'd need to load the USB
driver in DOS.

Look for something called 'Discwizard' by Seagate at
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/discwizard

It's free and may be what you're after. I used it once with great success.

Assuming drive is holding XP, try DriveImageXML
(http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm) - can be loaded off BartPE CD which you
can download, burn and boot from.

This might do what you want and its free.
