Well, his Madoka is (I believe) an Acorn RiscPC. I have three of 'em
myself, but their names are Fax/Comms, Games and Bedroom. Helps me tell
which is which when accessing any of them from another room in this
networked house...

Madoka doesn't often come out to play anymore, though she does the
occasional bit of work as a backup for Miyuki. That may change as Mads has
possession of my i16 card, and I've got a lot of old vinyl and tape that
needs digitising!

Tut tut, John - you should have named them after anime characters or
items by now! May I suggest the totally easy to remember Astevalis,
Hyaku-Shiki and RX-78GP01 "Zephyranthes"...? ^_^

That's "Aestivalis" :-)

Perhaps Rei, Shinji and Asuka would be better choices -- though I don't
know which one to choose for the bedroom RiscPC...

I checked carefully before posting my earlier item, so felt confident in
my correction. I do hope you aren't going to destroy my
self-confidence, as I shall need all of it if I am to secure employment.

Remember: if I can't afford to maintain my on-line connection, I shall
be unable to post to this froup...

It's a Personal Computer based on "Reduced Instruction Set Computing"
(RISC) technology -- a world first for Britain in 1987 when the first
production RISC computer was created by Acorn in Cambridge,
incorporating the chipset they had created, and released in July of
that year. I got mine in September, having missed the boat with the
first (small) batch.

This machine was based around the ARM (which originally meant "Acorn
RISC Machine") CPU, which in its commercial guise is now the most
common CPU on Planet Earth, by a large margin. Most modern mobile
phones in the world are powered by an ARM processor, for example.

I shall be introducing all of this into my story soon, which is just now
coming out of the stalled period of the various May elections. I am
hoping that the impending Henley by-election won't have a significant
impact on progress...

I also checked - like I say, it would seem that there are either
various spellings (not unknown in a hobby that relies on translation,
not always by experts) or its a very common mis-spelling.

I'm aware of this - it was a very bad pun based on the title of another
anime, "RiskySafety"... ^_^

I've got about three, and one can still find the hardcore cel shops in
Tokyo, but these days you'd probably have to explain what a cel is to
some people first... ^_^
