If the R&D people ever succeed in that you can be sure that the government will
put an exorbitant tax on tea!

The tracking system round here isn't good, they close one line or other every
weekend and bank holiday to do yet more work on it.
(not that I'm really complaining, it's about time some money was spent on
maintaining the system, it was left to rot for far too long)

You've left yourself wide open there...
You know what's coming next don't you...
"It'll be the wrong sort of snow." ^_^

The only railway category in which the UK holds a speed record - well,

Not if the MPs don't want a shunting pole placed somewhere sensitive,
they won't...

Tell me about it. I can't actually remember a date now when we *didn't*
have weekend alterations...

...and therein is the problem. I've always found it an odd coincidence
that the three networks usually held up as paragons of railway virtue
(Germany, France and Japan) were the three that had the most attention
from several dozens of thousands of tonnes of bombs once...

I read that Sir Nigel Gresley holds some post-war steam speed records,
too.

I wouldn't know, but I've just been reading a book about the Mallard -
I like engineering stories...
