that yes, Yokohama Shopping Log _technically_ is "post-apocalypse
gun-toting lesbian bikers". So, the question is this - what's the best
description you can come up with for any anime/manga which is completely
accurate but wildly misleading?

I'll kick off with;

Thrice. It's too chatty. But let me try and write some guidelines;

Death Note: "A young man takes up writing in an effort to change people's
lives and make the world a better place. Many people, including his
father, do not see much value in his work, and he seeks to keep out of the
public eye."

So, guidelines;

It has to be accurate.
It has to describe most or all of the series in question. No fair taking
an isolated incident out of context.
50 words is probably about enough.

Not anime at all, but;

Doom (computer game): "After the initial colonisation of Mars, new
immigrants face unique challenges."

 Orange Planet is quite a new gondolier company, from what I recall of
the manga I've seen so there's competition going on. Aria Company is
weird in that they operate on the Sith principle -- "always two there
are, a master and an apprentice", so there's something strange going on
there. Alicia's always going off for "meetings" with the Gondolier
Society... Perhaps she's making the other companies an offer they can't
refuse.

Hotaru dies in a flashback in episode 120. Mistress 9 dies in episode 125,
and is arguably the Professor's daughter. Episode #126 establishes that
Hotaru has been "reborn" and has a "new life".

Now the second two _can_ be quibbled with, but I think it's fairly
indisputable that Hotaru dies on at _least_ one occasion.

This description reminded me of a Power Rangers/Super Sentai parody where 
an ordinary person was being harrassed by 'heroes' thinking he was the 
next supervillain.

With the apparent simplicity of the sentai, kaiju (giant monster) and 
shoujo (ie Sailor Moon) plots, I'm wondering how far one could take a 
spoof of those series.

Perhaps the (future team's) commander or his/her advisor could choose the 
wrong people for the job (ie a cleaning lady, hooker, neo-hippie, data 
entry clerk and cartoonist) and they save the day almost by accident.

Perhaps the victim of a (later destroyed) growth ray could be an ally of 
these heroes until another one can be built. (or would that drain the 
world resources, particularly when it comes to the *ahem* processing of 
certain materials in the meantime) ^_^;

Perhaps a group of high-school students 'fated' to become evil decide to 
buck their roles and use their dark powers to help humanity. (Things may 
not always go as they plan, however)

If these plots have already been used, perhaps you post appropriate 
examples but, if 'Samurai Goddess Galaxia' is any indication, I would 
assume that any fame these plots gain will be fleeting. ^_^;;

We'll see how everything goes.

Shinesman - Hero gets appointed to sentai team as office promotion, 
chooses Red mecha suit because it's his kid's TV favorite, not realizing 
that his office co-workers chose corporate colors of Gray, Moss Green 
and Salmon Pink...

(I mean, I *wasn't* the only one shouting this back at the original 
post, was I?--Or did everyone else just consider it too obvious to mention?)

	Sailor Moon *IS* a spoof of such series, actually. It was born from a 
joke by the cartoonist. It developed more substance than JUST spoof, 
yes, but it's still not truly a serious Mahou Shoujo show.

	The greatest spoof of Sentai remains -- DYNAMAN!

A while back there were a series of Youtube videos posted of a Japanese
variety show with a parody of sentai, five reds showed up, the villain
bitched at them, etc.

	As with so many other staples of Japanese animation, Megas XLR features 
a team of Gatchaman look-a-likes, with a bit of Sentai mixed in 
(disembodied bald head giving the orders, each team member has an 
animal-themed robot that can combine to form a larger one).

	Their lot is not, generally, a happy one.

	There is also an episode of the same series where Magical Girls [1] 
(with mecha - sigh) turn up. The result is perhaps a foregone conclusion.

	[1] Well, not *exactly*. Its just obvious where the inspiration is.
