MUMIA: Maureen Faulkner hawks her new seeking-vengeance book

[Maureen Faulker, the widow of Daniel Faulkner, the Philadelphia cop
Mumia is accused of shooting in 1981, is now on the shill circuit
hawking her new book. Apparently in the WHYY-FM radio interview
referenced below, the many letters sent to the station actually got
through to the on-air interviewer, who asked her [some] inconvenient
questions. See the brief precis below from the Yahoo group
MumiaNYC and go to the link provided if you want to hear the entire
interview. You can join the MumiaNYC Yahoo Group here:

Don't buy her garbage melodramatic memoir, but do buy Mumia's latest
book:
"We Want Freedom: A Life in the Black Panther Party
By Mumia Abu-Jamal
Paperback: 320pp
http://leftbooks.com/store/product171.html
Mumia Abu-Jamal provides the world with an important history of the
founding of the Philadelphia Black Panther Party in his new book "We
Want Freedom: A Life in the Black Panther Party."
Mumia, known to the world as a wrongly convicted political prisoner held
for 25 years in Pennsylvania's death row, is exacting and luminous in
his history and his analysis of the Black liberation struggle.
An important book for anyone learning about one of the most important
political organizations in the on-going struggle for Black liberation.

The direct link to listen to the audio with Maureen Faulkner on WHYY
is http://www.whyy.org/rameta/RT/2007/RT20071211_20.ram The part with
Maureen Faulkner is the first hour of the show.
Maureen Faulker actually sounds as if she is in a state of
self-induced hypnosis. Anyone who knows about the Mumia case will be
appalled by Maureen Falkner's shallow, defensive responses. Over and
over she praises every journalist, attorney, judge, show that support
her personal verdict against Mumia. These are intelligent, honest,
good people. On the other hand, every journalist, attorney, judge,
documentary that even questions the verdict are dishonest, biased,
liars, ignorant and just "won't leave her alone and let Danny rest in
peace."
She says she is a "good" person and complains because they (Mumia
supporters) "won't let her live a normal life." She wants Mumia to be
executed so he will be silenced and not able to write books and have
any freedom of speech. She later claims Mumia has made millions off of
his writing.
She complains that no one, including Bishop Desmond Tutu, has the right
to question the guilty verdict if they did not read the court
transcripts. This is absurd. But, there is no mention of witnesses
saying the police forced them into signing statements that the police
prepared for them. There is no mention that Veronica Jones was taken
off the stand and arrested when she refused to lie and spoke out for
truth, nor that Veronica stated she liked officer Faulkner and had no
reason to support Mumia but was just telling the truth.
She keeps saying she just wants Mumia to tell what really happened the
night her husband was killed. Well, Mumia has stated over and over the
truth. But, Faulkner will never be happy with the truth.
She claims that [the notorious and now-deceased racist] Judge Sabo "knew
the law", was a "mild man" and was "fair." The interviewer never
mentioned that Sabo said he was going to help the prosecution "fry the
nigger." I am quite sure Maureen Faulkner is aware of the court worker
reporting this....
She complains and whines about the Mumia supporters "never leaving her
alone" [but does not claim she has ever been threatened].
Contrast this with the facts about a recent Free Mumia Rally in
Philadelphia on April 24, 2007:
"Police first targeted the Clef Club-- an African-American jazz club
that receives public funding -- and forced it to cancel its contract to
host the Mumia event. However, the Third World Coalition at the
American Friends Service Center stepped up and provided an alternative
meeting space.
"The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) put pressure on invited speakers,
including actor/activist Danny Glover and Delacy Davis, founder of
Black Cops Against Police Brutality, who told the rally he had received
over 20 death threats from Philadelphia police officers in the last few
weeks. Glover and Davis also spoke at a press conference prior to the
evening rally.
"Pam Africa, head of International Concerned Family and Friends of
Mumia Abu-Jamal, says that when all this couldn't stop the rally from
taking place, she was informed by the head of police Civil Affairs Unit
that '400 plain-clothed police carrying weapons' would march on the
Friends Center to 'confront' the rally." ...
Some questions not asked in this interview:
1. What about this (http://www.counterpunch.org/wells09302006) report:
"When Officer Daniel Faulkner was killed in 1981, three simultaneous
FBI investigations into the Philadelphia police were taking place, one
focused specifically on the Center City division. When the indictments
came down, it was the biggest police corruption case in the history of
the nation to that time. In the same year that Mumia was convicted
more than thirty policemen from the Center City division went to
prison, including a Deputy Commissioner, division commanders, Captains,
Inspectors, Lieutenants, Sergeants, and rank-and-file officers. A
third of these officers were involved in Mumia's arrest and
prosecution. The Inspector who supervised Mumia's arrest was never
called to testify at the trial; the day after Mumia was convicted he
resigned from the department and was subsequently indicted and
convicted for corruption."
2. Why does the Widow Faulkner think the emergency room doctor stated
that Mumia did NOT make the statement she claims he did that he killed
Faulkner? (She says that Mumia made this confession). And, why did the
police officer not report any such statement until a month or two
AFTER her husband was killed and Mumia was arrested? Why didn't the
officers put this in their original report?
3. Why does Faulkner think that Veronica Jones was [eliminated] from
a "20/20" "documentary" on Mumia when they found out what she was going
to say?
A lot more is covered in this one-hour radio interview. -Joan
We can see the impact of getting the Polakoff photos into the
mainstream media. Faulkner can no longer get a free ride. She now has
to respond to the new evidence, and she is not doing so very
effectively.

Hi Folks! Check it out! WHYY (radio) this morning had Maureen Faulkner
on their show, which can be listened to via Real Player, and I have
transcribed the part about the photos below:
This is the direct link to hear it:

I am working on an official response from Journalists for Mumia, but
wanted to send this out first, so folks could check it out.

This conversation about the [Polakoff] photos begins at 17:00.
WHYY: Now, as you probably know, some photographs have surfaced
and this from a photographer, Pedro Polakoff, and I believe he's
German, but it shows several things, and I'll just read them to our
audience. I'm quoting here from Reuters, "One photo shows a police
officer holding two guns in his bare hand, contradicting that officer's
trial testimony that he had preserved ballistics evidence." This is a
quote from Hans Bennett, co-founder of Journalists for Mumia, a support
group. So, he's saying, looking at this photograph, you see a police
officer with his hands on two guns, thereby raising questions about
contaminating evidence.
Maureen Faulkner: Yes, from what I understand that was Officer James
Forbes, if I'm not mistaken. From what this photograph is showing, I
don't know if his hands are actually on the grip of the gun, it seems
like he has his finger holding the gun through the actual trigger part,
but not on the handle of the gun. At that time, I'm sure the evidence
was somewhat contaminated."
WHYY: So you don't raise questions about the contamination?
Faulkner: No. I'm wondering where this man has been for 26 years,
that now all of a sudden he is coming up with these photographs? Why
hasn't he come forth before this? He claims he has come forth and
talked to the District Attorney's office, but I'm being told that they
never knew who he was, or he has not come forth to them.
WHYY: Another picture shows Faulkner's hat on top of a parked
car, contrasting with the official police photo of the crime scene, in
which the hat was on the sidewalk grating.
Faulkner: That's absolutely right. I saw that also. But where is
the timing of the photographs? Is there a time on the photograph of
when this was actually taken? Was the hat put from the ground to the
top of the car, or from the top of the car to the ground? We have no
idea.
WHYY: So do you think these photographs are doctored, or do you
think they don't really explain what...?
Faulkner: I don't really think they make much difference, to be
honest with you. The bottom line is that there were eyewitnesses that
saw what happened that night, and the evidence, the ballistics show
that Mumia Abu-Jamal murdered my husband. He confessed in the
emergency room, and several people heard him confess, saying "I shot
the MFer and I hope he dies"... Priscilla Durham, she testified in the
court in 1982 that she heard him, the security guard. This man
confessed to murdering my husband....
