Ukraine Must Wait for NATO

Kiev, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) US Defense Secretary Robert Gates admitted
that it is impossible for Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization any time soon due to the strong rejection of NATO in that
eastern European country.

Gates, who met with Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko in Kiev,
recognized the strong anti NATO sentiment, although Ukrainian leaders
evidence interest in joining that military organization.

We have to wait and see how events develop, but the entry of Ukraine
into the alliance is far from being an immediate future plan, stressed
Gates.

The US Defense secretary also said that Washington considers Moscow a
strategic partner.
