Hodge: ‘House Britons first’
http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=49762&in_page_id=34

British families should be given priority for housing over new
immigrants, a minister claimed.

Margaret Hodge said indigenous families had a 'legitimate sense of
entitlement' that their needs should supercede those of recent
arrivals.

Social housing policy should be rebalanced to give more weight to
length of residence, citizenship and National Insurance contributions,
she added.

Mrs Hodge, the industry minister, said there was widespread concern
about the changing face of Britain, and people needed to be reassured.

She said she had seen many voters in her constituency of Barking, East
London, turn to the far-Right British National Party because of
unhappiness with housing allocation.

'We must address these difficult questions,' she added. However, her
comments were quickly condemned by campaigners for asylum seekers'
rights.

Nancy Kelly, of the Refugee Council, said: 'The way to counter some of
the views that are put forward by the far-Right parties is not by
trying to follow their lead.'

Asylum seekers were not entitled to council housing, and arrivals from
new EU states had restricted access to benefits, she added.

Shadow immigration minister Damian Green said Mrs Hodge was admitting
the Government had not got immigration under control.

This policy has been going on since the sixties.
She's had nearly half a century to come to this conclusion.

That's why she's never mentioned it before! All she's interested in
is clinging onto power.

Asylum seekers' rights? What are those?

Typical woman. Totally illogical.
The way to counter these views is to come up with some rational
argument against them. Since there are no rational arguments against
them the only recourse is to follow the BNP's lead.

Well they're still here - sheltered and fed. Why?

Yep. Admitting the BNP is right.

The article on the BBC yesterday showed an overcrowded Polish family
who intended to sign up for a council house as soon as they were
allowed.

There is a housing shortage time-bomb building here...

I see Peter Hain disagrees he reckons NEED comes before time on waiting list
and nationality, IE he means 20,000 Roma turning up with open hands should
get priority over the British homeless.

She is a bare faced Liar, In middlesbroyugh all hell let loose two years ago
when three ( IIRC) British families with kids wrere told they could not be
housed because no houses were available, But these families noticed as weeks
and months went by a substantial amount of houses in Middlesbrough remained
empty.
The couples got togerther with the local paper ( The Evening Gazette) and
asked the council why these houses were still empy and they still homeless?.
The council said it had been ordered by the govt to lay aside a percentage
of its housing to accomodate Asylum seekers families , and they had complied
with the govts instructions. Oddly enough as soon as the gazette broke the
story the govt told the council to free up the houses for local people.

Never ever believe a word a lefty says or types they are complete alien to
honesty and the truth.

Generally, the white ones have a right to live in the UK on account of
them coming from EU member states.
How can you give millions of people from poor countries the right to
live and work here without providing extra housing for them?

I'm not, no.

However 'Polish' is not a race anymore than 'Irish' is.

Saying Poles can't have houses is not racist. Saying Indians can't may well
be.

Your style is very similar.

Very right wing, use the word 'treason' to mean 'I don't agree with them'
about Europe, think the BNP is a bunch of dangerous lefties.

I'd guessed that was who you meant, and it was "Sims" with one "m". But no,
I'm not him - he passed away in August 2005.

I take it you are talking about true Romanies who did indeed originate
in India, just like the Celts. Now there's a thing. However that was
about 5 or 6000 years ago, now they are a mix of peoples, just like
everywhere. Gypsies (from 'Egyptian') doesn't mean anything really and
most 'Roma' are as 'gadji' as you and me.

Some cases do not get media coverage.
I have a friend in a 2 bedroom council house in Dagenham. There are her
and her husband with 3 children (Boy 17 / Girl 15 / Girl 13)
They were told that larger houses were being 'saved' for immigrant
families who generally had larger families.
The councils answer was that the husband share a bedroom with the son
and the wife share with the two daughters !!

That is designed to lower the chance that they will try to qualify for a
larger house by having a larger family.
