New Chief
A letter from the Stamford Mercury, Friday 27th June 3008.:

"The new Chief Constable of Lincolnshire [Richard Crompton] has a very
impressive CV, a degree in politics and economics followed by being in
charge of force-wide community affairs, then a master’s degree in
organisational studies and attending a strategic command course. Since
joining the force as deputy chief constable, he has been responsible
for strategic development, professional standards, legal services and
information and communications technology. All of this sounds rather
splendid and no doubt personally very rewarding, but does he have any
actual experience investigating crime and catching criminals or is
this no longer a high priority in today’s police service?"

Does it matter?
Just so long as he can direct his force to collect revenue from motorists,
tick boxes on forms in order to make detection rates look good and report
crime figures down (mostly due to people no longer seeing a point to
reporting the crime) he is doing the job...isn't he ?

The Beatified Margaret demonstrated quite clearly what the British Police
were there for. So did that Papal Knight Rupert.

... all that, and he still found time to write all those "Just
William" books...
