Lincoln: Reliable aerial fitter?
Can anybody recommend a reasonably priced, reliable aerial fitter in/around
Lincoln please?

Thanks - K.

I'm on the lookout myself. I've been told the Teleservice shop on Burton
Road is good but they charge £150 to put up a digital aerial. I've no
idea if this is good or not. I'd be pleased to hear of anyone better you
may find.

I think that price is way excessive.......a digital aerial is made of the
same
materials as an normal one, with little difference in construction. Traders
are
cashing in on people's general lack of knowledge.
I see that Wilkinsons ( Wilko ) have a variety of aerials in stock which
will
work just as well and are not pricey. Anyone who can borrow a ladder can
do the job by fitting the new one to the old stub mast after removing the
old one.
I have found that so long as it points in the general direction of the
Belmont transmitter
I can get a perfectly good signal.
Other than that I suggest trying the smaller firms and getting quotes, there
are quite a
few of them in Lincoln.

      Horizon Aerials
      Wragby Rd
      Sudbrooke, Lincoln, LN2 2QU
      01522 750107?

These did mine. I got them to fit a second digital aerial run the
cables and leave me a twin socket in the front room.

Very pleased with the service, cost be about £90 if i remember
correctly. Sounds a bit expensive when the aerials are about £30 but you
wouldn't get me up a ladder to fit it. Well worth the cost.

Sounds rather cheap to me, most will charge around 150 a visit. You need
to be taking 600 a day to make a living.

Heard from my Mother who lives in North London, (Mill hill) she needed a new
aerial after a storm a couple of months ago, cheapest quote, and knowing mother
she searched, was £280.

and you would not get me up a ladder either.

Thanks for all the replies.

Wragby Road aerials came and seemed reliable, but seems like they price what
they think you can afford. £220 quote for an aerial fitted!?!?!

So I have spent all afternoon on the roof - I don't like heights - and got
it all done in the nice weather for £30! Working perfectly too.

Cheers - K.

Would you like to do mine for £50?

;)

Good Man ! Thats just what I suggested in my earlier post in this thread.
It's amazing how much you can save with a bit if D.I.Y.
I know that with all the overheads today tradesmen are bound to be
expensive,
but when they take advantage of people's lack of knowledge by charging twice
the price for a digital aerial which is hardly any different from an
analogue one.......
that just takes the piss.

I don't think it's so much the aerial that's the issue here. Keith and I
both live in *very* tall houses and personally the idea of wobbling about
on a ladder at that height scares the crap outta me.
I'd rather pay someone for this providing they don't come up with a joke
price.

Re: Lincoln: Reliable aerial fitter?
You are not kidding Groove! Three floors up, sat on the apex of a steep
roof, trying to undo rusty bolts - avoiding looking down. It was a
nightmare! My legs are still shaking. BUT the only thing I that more than
heights is being completely ripped off!

Some people work all year round for £7-8k. So a quarter of a thousand for
under 2 hours of relatively unskilled work seemed a bit much to me.
