Poor old Gordon
I'm starting to feel sorry for the bloke. After all, I presume he means
well. For years we've been fed he was the master of detail, the fine print,
and works all hours to get it right. So what happened yeaterday? Having spun
an announcement that all pensioners would get "insulation and lagging"
Gordon finally announced they would. Then it appears according to Harriet
Halfwoman, only "old" people would get it. That rules me out then on two
counts, a) I'm not old, only too old to care, and b) I've already got
"insulation" which I paid for myself!

Poor old Gordon, he is a Scot and like all Scots is a heart attack waiting
to happen. He should retire, it beats working as I know very well!

A couple of days ago, I was listening to good old radio 4. The governor of
the Bank of England was saying he would have to write to the chancellor
explaining why interest rates did not come down.
So I thought I can help you.
I wrote the letter for him.

Dear Chancellor,
You and your mate Brown are a pair of wankers.

There short and to the point.

These stupid energy savings measures are a load of old tosh. The poorest
people in this country live in flats. All bar the top flats don't need loft
insulation and of course, the top flats are normally the warmest anyway. As
for cavity wall insulation, I'd love to have it, but with my building's
structure, we can't have it. I also live in a conservation area and the
building is not allowed to have double glazing. Most of the poorest people
in Kent live in Edwardian and Victorian era flats that by enlarge are in the
same predicament and flats such as these cost a fortune to heat.

Well thought out isn't it?

It is a funny thing, this conservation stuff. My sister lives in a fancy
village in Sussex in a little terraced cottage that 50 years ago would have
gone for a hundred. I won't tell you what she paid for it, I was horrified
at the time, but now it is worth a mint! She wanted an extension, small
thing, just one room. Because it was listed it took seven years to get
planning permission and then "they" stipulated that it must not be double
glazed. So now we have the PM organising grants for double glazing and
insulation and some parastatal quango saying no to double glazing if you
live in a "desirable" area! Madness!
