Lapland UK
Based in Bedgbury Pinetum. Went there last Christmas (just before) to the
Lapland UK experience, enjoyed it immensely (apart from the kids running
around when it was meant to be adults only evening... lol Bah Humbug I
know!) However, had an email from them yesterday stating they are giving
priority to previous customers and they've changed some of the aspects of
it. You now get a hot meal thrown in and some ice skating, however what
amazed me was the price!!! I think I paid just under £70 for two of us last
year (will have to double check that) but now it's gone up to between £55
(Nov) to £85 per person and that's not discounted for kids either. Now I
know I said I enjoyed this but bloody hell, that's a hell of a lot of money
for four hours (not sure how you could fill four hours as we were there for
just over two). Ok, I know Im ahead of myself and it's twenty odd weeks
till Christmas but not going to bother with this one, what I would suggest
to anyone with kids who want good value for money is Bearsted (Nottcutts)
for their Father Christmas along with lots of animals and a good present to
boot. Have to say he was the best Santa I've met.... even made me feel like
a little kid.

Long way off like I said, but something to keep in mind!

85 Quid? Bloody Hell!!!!!

Whatever happened to a day in London for 30 bob round trip, walking down
Oxford street, and looking around Selfridges for free - then buying a bag of
roasted chestnuts for the trip home?

I took the kids to Lapland in Finland when they were about six years old and
it was a lot more expensive than that!

Lol, obviously it would be, this is only for a few hours and no real snow
either! Must admit I've always fancied going to Finland, not with kids
though, outgrown 'em but just as a big kid myself! Mind you I tend to avoid
anywhere with too many rugrats. My parents who love Florida Disneyland once
suggested I go there.... crikey I'd rather chop off both my arms..... and
legs! lol.

We did loads in a weekend, most memorably we went Huskie sledding, only for
an hour but it was one of the most fantasic experiences I've ever had, the
dogs just bark like mental when you get there, straining at the post and
itching to get going.

As soon as you go, they fall silent and run. Their sole ambition is to run
and pull a sled and they adore it.

Gliding silently through a snowy Finnish forest is the most trippy
experience imaginable.

I do know someone who went on a week-long adults-only Huskie safari and
that's something you might want to Google for.

My oldest was born at Pembury on the 27 of December. It was cold as hell as
kent used to be [before global warming of course] And I used to stop on the
way over from Tonbridge at a pub called the Vauxhall ,very cosy with a big
fire that used to burn year round.

That Christmas we had dinner at a very old pub in Pembury, cannot remember
the name ,could have been the green dragon. The dining room was upstairs had
exposed beams and in between was white they had put floodlights at the wall
/beam junction and draped a open woven white fabric from the apex to the
walls [dotted swiss I think] with Chistmas tree ornaments hung all over the
fabric.fabulous atmosphere,one dinner I have never forgotten...mjh

Finland? Not my cup of tea. If you go in summer it never gets dark and you
get eaten alive by the toughest mosquitoes I've ever come across. The hotels
have triple glazing and you have difficulty in getting fresh air. If you go
in winter it never gets light! And the food! Ok if you like salmon, salmon,
salmon, salmon and spirits. And saunas. And like cream with everything, even
saunas. The saunas are uni-sex though! It's ok to take a boat out, that's
fun. I can see going on a sled with huskies would be fun but that's it for
Finland. Bloody miserable people too, eg look at their Formula 1 drivers!
Like dour Scots on a bad day.

If you want snow, then Salt Lake city is the place. The powder snow is
fantastic, the place is beautiful, civilized, friendly and the hotels are
superb. it's great mountain scenery too in the summer.

I was thinking more of Lapland/Finland to be honest, just the Christmassy
type snow, huskies etc... Pah, I'll settle for a good old fashioned film
(Miracle on 34th St) and a mince pie and glass of red.... (sorry Harry, I've
brought it up again....bugger!)

It may be a long way off but when we passed the Lamb Inn in Eastbourne the
other day they had a blackboard on the wall counting down to Christmas.....
132 Day to go it said.
The bigger pubs that do meals tend to have a table in entrance with crackers
and menus for Christmas Day Dinners for around £40.
Bah Humbug.
