Canterbury 'Midsummer Madness'
We had a GREAT day out today in Canterbury... lots of free street theatre,
and let me tell you it was exceptionally good stuff. I haven't enjoyed
myself so much in ages and ages.

We also got to have a late lunch in Chambers, which I think is the best cafe
in Canterbury (although have to confess I haven't tried them all). Not only
do they do great fresh food, reasonably priced, served by someone friendly
with a warm smile, but they also have a little toy corner tucked away to
keep the kids amused, and on a Saturday they play Sam Cooke - my favourite.
Can highly recommend the banoffee milkshake.

Everyone else having a good weekend so far? Any exciting plans?

Love

I was about to get into gear when I realised I'd confused Chambers for
Cafe Rouge, a "popular" place purporting to serve "genuine French food of
the bistro variety". I went there just after it opened, the food was just
like any other cheap fast food place. Ghastly! Shame really as it is in a
good location and is decorated quite nicely. As for Chambers, I'm sure if
you recommend it Portia then it must be good. Except I note you mentioned
a " little toy corner to keep the kids amused" and "banoffee milkshake".
Either one would probably stop me going there but both make it a definite
no-no! :-)

As for "genuine" French food, that's a laugh, you can't even get it in
France. The French have lost the art of simple cooking. Anyone had proper
saute potatoes in France lately? or a simple herb omelette? Nope, French
food is going the same way as the rest of the world's cuisine, downhill!
Ask for couscous, bloody awful stuff, and every place serves it.

> Everyone else having a good weekend so far? Any exciting plans?

Definitely not. When you are retired the weekends are ghastly. All the
neighbours are home making a lot of noise, the first sign of sun and out
come their meths barbecues blowing fumes into my open windows, ugh!, and
getting on my nerves. The roads are full, and any place of interest worth
visiting is full of people visiting!

My exciting plans, if any, start Monday morning and finish Friday night.

Hi Portia,

Glad to hear you had a nice weekend, odd, was only yesterday discussing
Canterbury with my ma and Pa. Lovely place but I always find it so busy!

Had no "exciting" plans for the weekend moreso a lovely leisurely lunch
outside in the sun at my Mum and Dads place. Lots of food, good
conversation and even more important, good wine! :-)

Can recommend a great place to go, Beaverworld, nr Westerham.... it's a
charity run place and was very impressed with it, small but lots packed in!

Lol..... grumpy old men springs to mind!!! Mind you, I'm with you on the
kiddie corner! Went to a (cheap) restaurant the other day, honestly I felt
like I was in a creche! It wasnt so much the amount of children but the way
the parents were letting them behave, running around other tables, screaming
and shouting.... Honestly! I had to have several glasses of wine to drown
out their noise!!! ;-)

You know, if anyone on here other than you suggested I should check out
Beaverworld, I'd think it was a wind up.

I will look into it, as they say!!!

Oddly enough the fella gave me a funny look when I first suggested taking
his daughter there!!!

Leeds castle are doing a good deal too, buy a entry ticket and it lasts all
year! Be warned though, it took us ages to get out of the maze. Even then,
that was with the help of a young boy shouting from the middle of it
(highest point!) lol.

One of the many things you are not told about aging is that it is such a
nice change from being young! :-)

We could make it a quartet and get The Hatter and Not Today on board as
well! :-)
