And another thing...
I'm fed up with "issues". Everyone has "issues". Not problems, issues.
Knife crime, vandalism, rape, waiting lists, "A"levels, they are all
"issues". No they are not, they are damn great problems which no amount of
pc talk will disguise.
Mag Thatcher got a load of mud slung at her when she was misquoted as
saying " there is no such thing as society". But this present lot have
proved it, there is no thing as a fair society. Even the Network Rail
chief plonkers have got six figure bonuses. And it is a parastatal, or
should that be parasitic, organisation. The Post Office plonker, silly
little man that he is, also got a six figure bonus.
What is it with these bonuses? When I was at work I got paid for doing my
job. Now if you do your job you get stonking great bonuses. If you didn't
do your job you used to get the sack!
No wonder the unions are having a resurgence. Fat cats bankers who have
led us into a recession are getting six figure bonuses and the police get
1.9%!
I never thought the day would come when those at the bottom of the ladder
would see salvation in the Conservative Party. Better late than never!

There are issues everywhere! No problems at all. I went to the doctor the
other day, first time for years. Minor little "issue" for those hopefully
thinking maybe my time has come at last. The quack ask me if I had
insurance. I said no, I insure myself. He said that is what I advise all
my patients, put a little money aside each month, rather than pay Bupa. I
was in to see a consultant within 5 days. Cost me a hundred. Well worth
the money for peace of mind. Also well worth being treated as a human
being. Having said that my GP was great, he encouraged me to go private!
Ffs, all the money I've paid over the years in NI and it's come to this!

Have you retired? It certainly beats working unless you are a banker under
40 with no principles.

That does leave a nasty taste doesn't it. One gets the impression that
everything is falling apart even after 11 years of New Labour pouring tens
of billions into everything. I see that Imperial College have rubbished
"A" levels now and are making wannabe undergraduates take their own
entrance exam. Tough shit for the poor sods who have been led to believe
that a few "yes no" answers lasting two hours would see them well for
life. Oh, the stess of it all!

Those at the bottom are running out of options, poor sods.

Neither. Gone self-employed. It beats working for other people's bonuses!

Thankfully it was a minor little "issue", we would be sorry to lose you.
Having said that, if you knew it was minor, couldn't you have waited for a
couple of weeks and seen someone on the NHS, thereby recouping some of the
money you've paid in National Insurance?

ah, the rational voice of socialism... "couldn't you have waited a few weeks
and been diagnosed too late in order to lose your life in the hope that
you'll prove our idealist beliefs to be correct and acceptable?"
completely unrealistic, but oh so pretty..... bit like the Blair years.

Lol, I'd actually forgotten that one. It was like manna from heaven at the
time. I dined out metaphorically on ulk for weeks on it! :-)

Well, it would have been more precise of me to have written it was a
"minor" issue after the diagnosis. But my experience of such issues with
the NHS is not good. The previous time I went to the quacks was about a
couple of blemishes that had appeared on my forehead and were getting
bigger. My wife persuaded me to go to the doctor. He took one look, and in
view of the time I'd spent in Africa in the sun, sent me off to see a
consultant. He said for suspected cancer cases you can now see a
consultant in two weeks on the NHS. That indeed happened. So far so good.
The consultant took one look at the blemishes on my forehead and one on my
stomach and said "just keep an eye on them and if they get bigger come
back, they look ok to me"! Somewhat relieved I forgot about it for a week
or so until I spoke to my sister who works for Cancer UK. She said it
sounded an odd sort of diagnosis, it's usual to take a biopsy in such
cases to confirm one way or the other. So off I went to a skin cancer
specialist in London to see the top dog in melanomas. Cost a packet. She
took one look and said it doesn't look good, they will have to come off
and I may need plastic surgery afterwards because if they are melanomas
she would have to cut deeply. The long and the short of it is that they
turned out not to be melanomas but the consultant said in all her
experience she had never seen such blemishes that had not been melanomas.
She said that a biopsy should have been performed by the NHS consultant as
a matter of routine, particularly in my case with my history of sun
exposure.
She removed them with a simple liquid nitrogen spray and then removed
anything else on my body to which she took a dislike. She was very
thorough. I'm afraid that is what is missing in the NHS, thoroughness. I
have no doubt that once a correct diagnosis is made the NHS swings into
action and is as good and equal to anything in the private sector. It's
getting to a correct diagnosis that seems to be a problem. If, like the
majority of people, you have blind faith in doctors and do not question
anything you are doomed.Take HRT. 10 years ago doctors were telling women
that if they did not take HRT they would have heart attacks and strokes
and cut their life-span by 5 years. Now they are telling women the
opposite.
When I was in the waiting room an elderly lady with a zimmerframe reported
to reception that her doctor had just asked her to make another
appointment to see him in four weeks. The receptionist said " we can only
book appointments two weeks in advance". The elderly lady said but the
doctor said four weeks. The receptionist replied that she would have to
telephone in two weeks to make an appointment for two weeks after that!
It's that sort of stupidity, amongst many others, that gives the NHS a bad
name.
