I note your conjunction, perhaps unconscious, of St George's Day and
British bulldog. To me that is what being English is all about.

Have you noticed the more insignificant the country the longer their
national anthem?

Every time Ferari win a GP we have to listen to the Bloody. Il Canto degli
Italiani (The Song of the Italians)
Just when you think its going to end it starts up again.

Several years ago. A neighbour within sight of where I live ( in a no
interest no status and not worth mentioning part of town ) Put up a flagpole
and flew the Union Jack or the Cross of St George ( cant remember now )
Someone complained and he had to take it down. I was totally disgusted, but
apparently you have to have permission to fly a flag. What total crap this
country is.

That's interesting - I'll have to mention that to the man who lives on the
Lower Rainham Road who, for the past 28 years (since we moved here) has
flown a Swiss flag in his back garden.

Perhaps there's some complicated set of regulations about flags - I know
that in 2006 when the World Cup was on, every foreign car on the road seemed
to be sporting at least one St. George's Cross flag, which I found very
ironic.

Interestingly I have been researching the subject.
It would appear that flying the Union Jack or as it is actually named the
Union Flag, Does not need permission. Erecting the flagpole does. However if
you are say Welsh, living in England and want to fly a welsh saints flag,
then you do need permission.
So I assume if you are English living in Scotland or Wales you must seek
permission to fly the Cross of St George.

There's no money in St George's day (yet). Wait until its a celebration
where we "buy stuff".... then watch the corporate whores drape themselve in
the nearest flag of convenience.

Actually, i'm starting to think its a good thing our flag hasn't been pimped
out for a fast buck.
