Extra Bank Holiday - For remembering those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom
Number 10 Downing Street has approved a petition that was launched
requesting a new public holiday falling on the Monday after Remembrance
Sunday in November each year. To be known as the National Remembrance
Holiday, it's got three aims:

1. To emphasise the remembrance of those servicemen & women who have given,
& continue to give, their lives for Britain

2. To remind people of the importance of protecting our Nation & what it
stands for;

3. To break that 3 month period between the August Public Holiday &
Christmas when there are currently no long weekends, especially as the UK
has fewer public holidays than most European Countries.

If you agree to the idea, please sign up to the petition - it doesn't take
long & it would be great if you were to forward the link to other people as
well. If you are not interested, just hit the delete key. This is not just
about another bank holiday, but more importantly about having a designated
day to remember all those people that sacrificed their lives for our
freedom.

THIS IS A NOTABLE PETITION THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAVE ASKED FOR PLEASE SIGN IF
YOU WANT AN EXTRA BANK HOLIDAY .

Pass it on…!

Oh for goodness sake! No one is going to remember on a bank holiday. The
time and place to remember is the Sunday - Remembrance Day - not a bank
holiday which people will use to do nothing other than early Christmas
shopping.

In the US, the last monday in May is a national holiday and is observed as
Memorial Day to honor all servicemen who have died in all wars.

November 11th was initially observed as Armistice Day but later changed to
Veterans Day to honor all Veterans of the Armed Forces.

I have to agree with you there. It is all a bit sick. Brown thinks he has
clocked into public sentiment with this one. Never mind that servicemen
have less spent on their meals than prisoners, that their accomodation is
crap, that they are expected to fight two wars with less men and women,
that his support for them is at best luke-warm. Give the plebs a day off
and they will be eternally grateful.

What will this extra day off cost? More than is needed to put right all
the wrongs this government has inflicted on the forces I wager. I saw
Brown on the news tonight. He shows all the signs of a man out of his
depth. There is a fair chance he will be gone by Christmas. He can't hack
it.
