On your planet, you must have a. houses that last forever, b. a static
population. c. A Government that isn't pushing for new 'affordable'
housing to be built here, there, and everywhere.
On my planet, which I share with KJ of this parish, none of those
criteria above apply.
Now, I no longer live on the Isle of Wight, but in my shortish lifetime,
I have seen Perowne Way, go from a dirt track to a housing estate, and
I've seen the same happen at Carisbrooke and around Chale. That, to me,
does not indicate that there is, or ever has been [during my lifetime] a
surfeit of dwellings. Thus... more will be built to continue to feed
demand.
In the 35 years to 2006 the net population of the UK grew by 8%, and the
average age went up by almost 5 years.

This trend is set to continue.
I would suggest that these people would require somewhere to live.
