In that exchange he claimed he was the gardener.... now he posts the garden

That's your second post about the fool. Are you missing him?
P.S. He should get his wife to spell-check the plant names.

You mean the Island's own Walter Mitty has a *real* life? I thought he was
just
a figment of his own imagination.
I'll be down there in a couple of days. The weather looks rather better than
our last visit in March.

Ha......
He's notified everyone on the gardening ng of his imminent *world*
cruise....
It was fun to see the pictures of his last one that he kindly posted up on
the internet DURING that cruise..
But yes, he huffs and puffs about the place..... Freemason and all round
succesful business man to boot......ex councillor (parish..) and an expert
in a myriad of subjects.
I miss his over the rooftop monorail discussions and the contentious
(essential, in his view) fixed link with the 'north' island - another mike
term.

Gorgeous today..... although people and traffic starting to arrive......
Oh, here's one for you kevin, we walked the whole length of Sandown front
this (sunday) morning looking for a 'breakfast'. Not one hotel or bar or
cafe did breakfast.....
Just fancied sitting looking out over the sea with the papers and some sort
of cooked food (always difficult for me as I don't eat meat, but poached
eggs on toast works nicely..). Eventually found the one and only cafe
serving said fare, just up the hill opposite the pier entrance.... glimpses
of the sea etc.
Why is that.... all the hotels do B & B ??
The St helens restaurant do a nice 'brunch' though, beside the green, take
in the car boot..... quite pleasant on a nice day....
Bought 12 good size geraniums there today for £14 - about £1.20 each.....
very fair. Even Tesco charge 2.49 for them.
Roll on the summer....!!

great weekend...hanging baskets went into the nursery and rounded up
volenteers for gardening.
I don't think it will be long before nobody goes to Sandown full stop.
Its amazing that the rise of Ventnor (in the Top 10 south coast resorts
now) coincides with the near death of Sandown.
Cannot believe how busy we are now..............I'll need a holiday soon

Do you get really picky when you go away to other 'hotels' or such..? can
you relax with the service and food quality etc..?
Do you go abroad to holiday - what do you think the differences are with
there and here..?
Here's an idea (..if it hasn't already been done) hoteliers association
creating the award for best (kept?) hotel garden on the island...
Get titsmarsh to judge it with a nice annual plaque/cup for future
display...
[we might even get MC to stand as a volunteer consultant to assist those
without any expertise...........]
Enjoy the fine weather..

Glad you're doing well Kevin.
Sorry we're not staying with you but we try to avoid the whole bay area
these days. It's either too busy (Shanklin) and/or derelict (Lake-Sandown).
Fortunately there are still plenty of places where you can get away from the
other DFL's.

Where we holiday depends on the children really and the fact that we can
only really holiday from November to March, so if we want a 'hot'
holiday we have to head far South. We were in Disneyland Florida last
year and although I was dismayed at the utter comercialism of it you
cannot help but be impressed by the organisation and thought that goes
into managing/conteolling tourists. We do spend all our time in hotels
taking notes, but tend to be more accepting of small mis-demenours
In the past I have tended to holiday 'off the beaten track' in Africa.
There the tourist is king and treated as one and once away from the
tourist traps and you mix with real people you find that we are all
pretty much the same ('sept they all support Arsenal and Man Utd.)
We do have a Shanklin in Bloom competition for the hotels in the area.
We would love to be in it but we just acn't afford the time or money at
the moment to bring our large back garden/small park up to a competing
standard.

Two weeks ago, took some friends to the Seaview Hotel, sat night. It was
rammed, I mean rammed, with dfl's.
I know it's expected in seaview but I just have to touch base with these
crowds to remind myself (..I lived for a year or so in Bluett Ave and just
loved the autumn/winter early spring before the hordes arrived. But july
and august.....oh dear, it's painful to watch. In august, some saturdays,
the dfl's take over the high street by moving the tables and chairs from the
patio in front of the hotel out into the road. Vehicle access is impossible
to the front (and yacht club). Further round in pier road, the boat
trailers, around 20 or so, just get parked the entire length of the double
yellow lines back up the hill..... parked for about four weeks in total
(..probably not the same ones..). Watching some of the young hoorays is a
bit like the 'Rock' , Cornwall scene. Rubbish and bottles strewn around
the beach and pavement areas on the front there - it's sad for such a pretty
little village.
I'm coming to like the Harbour Island bistro..... a few (genuine)
boat/yacht owners rather than 'yachties', nice aspect, decent food... a
little hidden gem, I'd say. Best kept a little Island secret, in my view,
though.... the helipad behind is where some/many of the festival acts get
deposited and transferred. As I understand it, it's open throughout the
festival - though convincing the street security to let you pass, if they
put them on the end of the lane, might be difficult without some sort of
harbourmaster pass, or something...

Oh......never, ever been in..
Is it ok for food (did they do a curry speciality at one time or am I
getting mixed up?). Local crowd?
I know a couple of people from Bonchurch (..a retired photographer from the
news of the world and a writer) both mentioned it a long while back.
I like Bonchurch very much and did look at two houses there to buy about two
years ago but didn't quite make the decision at the time.
Also looked at the Leaconfield around the same time with a view to turning
back into a home. It was up at £650,000 but the conversion back would have
been at least £200,000.... still would have been a nice home
afterwards..nice view from the gardens out across the sea.
Anyway, I'll give the Bonchurch Inn a go one day soon...

I don't think so....one of the best respected builders on this side of

Ah another one living in a 'dream' world. When the bullshit money and
bullshit jobs dry up, he'll be on the shit heap much like any other builder.
Still, at least there will be one builder left building in the thick of it,
funny how its your 'mate'.
Denial denial denial. I laugh at him now.

I don't suppose he cares much as he and his team are booked solidly for
the rest of the year and he's employing sub-contractors to help out
because he has so many 'top money' jobs on at the moment
and he's not some little puppy scared of Poles, but a very expereinced
builder both here and on the mainland

I like the term used "on at the moment". Just how many mansions are there on
the island having 3 bedroom extension being built?

I've been to his three current sites, when he finishes two of those he's
doing some insurance work for me, then he starts two new jobs in
Ventnoir in early June. At the end of June he starts 3 new builds and
