Bishops Stortford Station Parking
Hi all,

My wife and I are considering moving to Bishops Stortford (she has
family living there and its an easier commute for me to the city plus
you can get bigger houses than here in SW London).

The problem is none of the properties we've viewed which are walking
distance to the station are suitable for us (either too small or on
busy roads or in a dodgy looking area or too expensive!!!).

The only houses which fit the bill are out on the rather soulless
estates to the west of town (great houses but no infrastructure) e.g
St. Michael Mead

This would mean I would need to drive into 'Stortford town centre to
get the train to London on most weekdays - no problem there except the
railway car park doesn't seem very big for a town the size of
'Stortford and all the roads within walking distance have yellow lines
so there's doesn't seem a alternative place to park if the car park in
full

Our family who live there don't ever use the train so they haven't been
able to help us - hopefully you guys could lend a hand! Does the
railway car park ever get full in 'Stortford? and by what time? Where
do you park if it does get full (after all - you can't stand there and
phone your boss and say you're not going to the office because you
can't find a place to park for the train!!!!).

Is driving to the next station and parking there (stansted or
sawbridgeworth I guess) better than driving into Stortford?

Many Thanks

Jose

There are two car parks at Stortford Station. The one just by the
station is for season ticket holders only in the week, and becomes
full fairly early.

The other car park is reached by car from Anchor Lane (that's the road
with the cinema multiplex, McDonald's etc.) or on foot by walking
through the main car park. This may be used by casual parkers and
almost always has room, although you have have a problem if you turn
up late during the Xmas shopping season. A few months ago this car
park was also filling up, but that was due to part of the car park
being turned over to some developers. This has now finished.

Be warned - it costs £6.40 per day before 1000 (£3.00 afterwards), no
change is given, £2 coins are not accepted and you cannot (in theory)
pay at the station.

Sawbridgeworth car park is tiny and fills up; Stansted Mountfitchet
always has room and is much cheaper. However since the latest
timetable the train service from both of these is infequent and slow
(although Stansted is to get stops on some of the peak Stansted
Express services from February - this will make it an attarctive
option).
