This review is totally my own and is intended for information only.

My reviews are obviously biased and based upon my opinions. I've already
spoken to a couple of people who have disagreed with my views, but hey,
everyone's different and entitled to their own opinions.

Here goes.

Firstly, the site was alot smaller than I anticipated. I wasn't expecting
Glastonbury,. But I was still surprised at how small it was.
There wasn't a dressing up tent as advertised. Oxfam were selling dressing
up things. That was it. Some of the games in the retrogames room didn't work
or just ate your money. Only a couple of the market stalls were inclined
towards the festival. The others were just like at a Sunday market. But the
biggest laugh was the Capri "Show" ...... mmmm 2 Capri's behind a rope.
Great show!

Anyway, to the stage


Kajagoogoo - I always thought that Kajagoogoo were OK. That's it. Never
though they were brilliant, never thought they were crap. BUT .... seeing
them live was AMAZING. Superb choice by the organisers to put them on first.
Nicks bass playing was outstanding (which is probably why he featured in 2
other groups over the weekend). I loved it. The crowd loved it. I'll be
downloading some Kajagoogoo ASAP. They also played a NEW song called "Rocket
Boy" which had a good tune, but I thought the lyrics were naff.

Imagination (featuring Leee John) - This is my main review that people have
disagreed with, but here are my thoughts. Firstly I thought that "featuring"
meant there would be someone else on stage as well as Leee. No, it was an
awful backing tape of hits megamixed into one long track. Secondly the
outfit Leee had chosen looked like he'd turned up to do some painting.
Thirdly, He sang terribly. And fourthly, My dad dances like that and people
take the piss. I walked off to buy a veggie burger from a van advertising
veggie stuff. That only sold meat!? And cost £3. The lady next to me, also
walked off with her friend saying that she thought he was terrible too.
However, people I have spoken to since said that they thought he was OK as
it reminded them of their youth.I thought it was awful. Crowd was non plused
(at the time).  Leee John "Let me hear you say yeah" Crowd ..... silence. I
saw him on Reborn in the USA and he was smart and sang OK. My favourite song
by the group was bodytalk. Very disappointed.

The Blockheads (featuring Phil Jupitus) - You know he's not as fat as he
looks on telly. Anyway, here I'm in a dilemma. When the singer of a group
leaves / dies, I think the group should give up or move on. I think Queen
should call it a day. Nobody can replace Freddie. However, I love INXS and
now the new singer has settled in, I think they're excellent. So, Ian Dury.
You can't replace him. I sort of want an Ian Dury sound-alike, but then I'd
be too judgemental on his impersonation. Put it like this. I'm not keen on
Phil Jupitus. I think he's the wrong man for the job. The music was
outstanding. The crowd loved it and was very loud in joining in. I couldn't
get past Ian not being there. Sorry.

Bananarama - SUPERB. There was a reviewer in the 80's who always took the
piss out of Wham! for not being deep. Their songs not meaning anything. SO
WHAT. I loved Wham! because they were fun. The tunes were good and you could
sing along. Who cared if the lyrics meant anything or not?. Bananarama
totally (intentionally or not) carried this feeling on. They were great fun.
They kept wondering what song was next. They did the routines wrong a couple
of times. They're not the best singers. BUT, they were great. They really
did bring that 80's feeling back. I loved them. The crowd loved them.

Go West - I used to love Go West. They performed well. But strayed a little
too far from the original versions for my liking. I enjoyed them and the
crowd seemed to like them.

ABC - Now, at the gates I met an American lady who was besotted with Martin.
I mean REALLY fanatical. He knows her as she (quite literally), follows him
around. She later acquired a backstage pass from him / someone on his team
and tried to impress me with it. BTW she said that nothing had ever happened
between them as he was happily married and not inclined to ever be
unfaithful. I thought that Martin looked like he was obliged to be there. He
sang OK. Did the hits. But it was all a bit normal. I thought it was OK.
Crowd seemed to enjoy it.

Tony Hadley - What a voice. As a bloke, I don't find him attractive or
understand why women find him attractive. But his voice was superb. Singing
wise, probably one of the best there. I thought his adlib vocal doodlings
were off. But his performance as a whole was outstanding. I loved it. Crowd
loved it. I'd moved to the side of the stage at this point as some pissed up
woman kept standing on my feet and she had stilettos on (yes on a field). I
pointed out that she was standing on me numerous times at which point her
boyfriend started to get aggressive. So I just moved away. To tell you the
truth, I wanted to smack the guy. But I also wanted to watch the rest of
Retrofest and not end up in a police cell.

Tony Hadley vs ABC vs Go West - Oh my god, what a shambles. Really awful.
Coming in at the wrong time. Missing lyrics because they didn't know it was
supposed to be them singing it. Bad idea. Waste of time.

Howard Jones - I used to love Howard Jones. And Nik Kershaw. I had all their
records. When I was told that he was doing an acoustic set, I was dreading
it. It either took him a while to warm up. Or me to him. Or both of us? But
anyway, I thought he started off poorly, but got better and better. Everyone
was singing along at the end. Howard couldn't decide whether to sit behind
his keyboard or get on the front of the stage and sing. So he did look a
little like a yoyo. And I hope that no Japanese were offended by his
impersonation?

The Human League - Blimey, I thought Howard Jones was like a yoyo. Phil
Oakey was like a yoyo on speed. I don't know if that's what he normally does
on stage, but he did quite literally ricochet from one side of the stage to
the other for all but one song (Human). Maybe he was trying to annoy the
spotlight guy? From the first time I saw the Human League on TV I was in
love with Suzanne. BUT having seen them live, I'm now in love with Joanne.
WOW, what a body and what wonderful clothes she almost wore to show it off.
I'm searching the internet to see if she's single.
The Human League stole the Show. Worthy headliners the crowd was singing
along to every song. I absolutely loved them.
