That's the game I'm waiting for. Anyone know where to sign up for the beta?

It does look very cool, the art style is very unique (cross between
Grim Fandango and Voodoo Vince?)
But I'm still not quite sure what the point is just yet...

Looks good. I thought I recognised the music - The Go Team - yay (I
play PES with the bass guitarist - maybe I'll get a freebie....)

While the concept looks neat, and the background is cool, (though it doesn't
change much), this game will appeal to children mainly. I don't see hard
core gamers getting this as a source of fun, unless you're under 12 years of
age.

I guess you arent a hardcore gamer then. **wink**
To me this games seems more in line with something Nintendo would think up.
I truly cant think of a more innovative game.

It seems innovative, but it will appeal to youngsters moreso. I don't think
you would buy it and play, and if you do, would that be out of boredom? I am
not trying to start word war here, but there are no recent good games for
the PS3 worth getting still at this time (though GRAW2 looks good, my buddy
got it for his PS3 and it looks every bit as good as the 360 version)..
Now, it's not to say that a lot of PS3 owners may have kids and buy it, or
it may cause a little sales spike, but that console appeals to the older
teen/adult crowd. That game would be more suited on the Wii.

I disagree... the cutesy style graphics may turn people off, but the
Second Life style building tools are going to suck in the geek factor
like nobody's business.
I predict a functional Babylon 5 station done in that engine within
the first 9 months. :^)

Understood. I am buying it by the way. I was always a fan of the Incredible
machine games. And this feels like a new dimension on that old formula.
While yes the PS3 obviously has had a lack of great games to play, i will
say hopefully Warhawk is ending that trend. The game is fantastic. No longer
will my girlfriend get mad that i'm playing another online/single player
game... just pick up the controller and join me!
Part of me wishes they could have had a single player or coop/mission based
playability, but what they did do is give a solid game for what it is.
Anyhow.... getting away from the main subject here... I would like to think
that most people like to try something new. And LBP is just that. It looks
fun. And it promotes creativity. Something that's generally the complete
opposite of videogames/visual entertainment.

You make a point, but I disagree somewhat, as you give the impression of why
it would suck in those from your perspective. To me, it is something I
wound't want to play. I like console games for adventure, shooting and role
playing with action in it. It may appeal to you since it seems you have more
of an eclectic taste in games; I don't. But I think the majority of current
gen (we are no longer nex gen everyone) console owners will fall into my
category who don't care about the Wii.
I do hope the game sells well though.. the PS3 needs something to break
through.

Not sure most gamers don't care about the Wii. It's a great console,
but it's lacking game types that us gamers are used to; which is no
bad thing if you can afford more than one console.
As far as little big planet is concerned, they're not to worried about
the hard core gamer liking it, they're more interested in attracting
the non gamer. Let's face it, the number of traditional gamers on the
planet count in the low millions, the number of non gamers are in the
billions. This is why Nintendo are doing their own thing and also why
Sony are hoping LBP will have the same affect as Wii sports.
Personally after watching the video on PSN, I can't wait for this
game. I spent hours in Halo with my friends blowing the warthog over
cliffs and also seeing how high/far we could blow up our own
characters. This game makes that kind of stupidity a breeze and it's
cute too. There can be no better mix

Game trailers mean jack-shit. The game trailer for Red Steel looked
amazing. Until some critics (and preferably the public) gets a hands-
on, we know NOTHING. This game isn't even close to being released and
not a single person has even had a hands-on yet. Proclaiming it a
"killer app" at this point is beyond fanboy.

you forgot platform in your list of genres, and this falls flatly in
platform (and a majority of console owners still love platform games, while
you yourself may not)
And what sets this apart from other platform games is that you can create
your own levels.

I should have edited my post to say (as this is what I meant), "But I think
the majority of current gen (we are no longer nex gen everyone) console

Again, it isn't my thing and it may work for some. I hope it does well
though.

It supposedly will be in Beta pretty soon (I'm still trying to find out how
to sign up for that). Several people have had limited hands-on already.
Check this gamespot review for an example (and watch the video for his
creation)

That it does... and this is definitely a great start.

Yes it does look fantastic but I still do not understand the point of the

I can't see the point either. I've just watched a video, on Gamespot, of the
developer and a journalist building cardboard fighting robots that sort of
floated around on the screen swinging their arms at each other! In another
video clip the journalist can be seen dressing up a couple of the in game
characters but at no point does anyone mention why they created the robots
or dressed the characters up.
When I first heard the name LBP my first thought was of LBA (Little Big
Adventure) on the PC which I enjoyed thoroughly but this appears to be
nothing like that, indeed it appears to be nothing more than a simple
construction game. Though why and what you do with your constructions is
still a mystery, (to me at least).
Another thing that puzzled me was some of the comments posted on Gamespot.
People were calling this title a potential system seller! Now maybe there is
more to this game than I've seen on Gamespot but it would have to be a hell
of a lot more to make me consider buying it.
So, does anyone know what the point of LBP is?

Having fun ?
It seems to be the b*****d child of Garry's Mod, The Incredible Machine
and The Sims. Supposedly there's a more rigid 'level' structure to be
revealed at some point, in that you can "create levels for your
friends", but they've been very quiet on that side of things.
I'd imagine that anyone not really interested in it, unless there's a
lot more of a 'point' to it, is possibly not the target market, but they
may have a much bigger plan to be revealed yet.
I'd buy it in an instant if it were available now, though.

It's a 'build your own' platformer that allows you to post your levels and
import others from PSN.
