MWC270808
Last Week:
1. Unlock the Tournament of Champions in World Series of Poker: TOC.
SUCCESS: Winning the major TH'E no limit event in Vegas was enough to unlock
this. It bloody well should have been as well, the amount of time it took.

2. Eagle the par 5 with the island green in the Tiger Woods '09 demo.
FAILURE: No persistent stat increases means that this was actually
physically impossible (short of chipping in from 100yds+).

3. Complete a further level of TimeShift or Frontlines. (Bets well and
truly hedged there)
SUCCESS: Frontlines 'Captains of Industry' level done (and stopwatched, and
ironmanned).

4. Gamerscore to 49k.
FAILURE: Relatively close (48771 - a climb of about 600), but no cigar.

5. No cigarettes after Thursday.
PARTIAL SUCCESS: Well, technically a failure as I have had a couple since
Thursday, but all things considered I think it's going pretty well.

This Week:

1. 50k.

That is all.

[snip the rest]

No mention of your stopping smoking efforts there? How's it going for you?

There's a reason I left it out :)

I smoked very little over the weekend, was pleased with myself. But then
the mrs went to a funeral in Kent yesterday and I had the house to
myself for a day and seemed to end up chaining for no real reason. I
shall resume my efforts momentarily. I have to go to Hartlepool with my
dad on Friday, who doesn't know I smoke, so won't be able to and will
try to use that as my new stopping point.

He suspects. But several years of strategising and very careful and
precise execution I've managed to deny confirmation thus far. It would
be far easier just to stop :)

If you smoke, you smell. Sorry, but that's the way it is. In days of yore,
secret smokers (like my brother) could get around this by having lots of
smoking friends and then say the smoke is from the pub. But you can't do this
now.

But yes, stop. I know a lot of people who have stopped over the last 4 or 5
years, and it seems the best way to do it is literally just stop. No faffing
with cutting down, or nicotine patches and gum - just *stop*. It's harder for
the first couple of weeks, but you're waaaaay more likely to stop for good.

Personally, I couldn't ever even consider smoking. Not because of the smell or
having to stand outside, and not even for the health issues (although my
asthma totally vanished when I moved out of my mum's house - she's a smoker):
it's the money. I could afford a 40 a day habit, sure, but the money! Such a
waste of money! Imagine all the games I wouldn't be able to buy! :)

Or, just light up in front of him.
It may be a disappointment to him to some degree if he disapproves of
smoking, but you *are* an adult, and in the big scheme of things whether you
smoke or not is not going to make a huge difference. I 'came out' to my
parents as a smoker when I was about 20, and on the big scale of different
ways I've disappointed them over the course of my life so far, it barely
registers.

When your dad is a smoking nazi, and pays your wage, you think
differently :)

I find carrying a bag with a second coat, or smoking jacket if you
prefer, along with a bottle of strong mouthwash, alcohol handwash and a
selection of sprays will hold up against any interrogation.

But yes, I know the only way is to stop. Last year my doctor put me on
Champix and I went six months. Maybe I'll ask for more. The gum and
lozenges make me physically sick, they make my throat seize up, it's a
horrible feeling. I will do it. Just you wait.

What's BYOB? I could look it up, but can't be arsed.

Forgot my ultra-sad one.

11) Maintain my streak. Apparently I have played on my Xbox 360 for 97
consecutive days, the 596th longest streak ever recorded on Live. I get
a new badge on my 360voice profile if I get to 100 :)

And, in accordance with new rental arrivals...

12) Finish GH: Aerosmith on Expert.
