Things are getting really half arsed round here of late. I'd whip you

Ooh, this one's hard. So many good choices. My five:
5. Last Gladiators Pinball
4. Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter
3. Shining Force III Chapter 1
2. Virtua Fighter 2
1. Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shining Force III cries out for a remake, but it pushed the Saturn
hardware so hard that none of the code is reusable anywhere there isn't a
Hitachi SH instruction set. VF2 needs no sale or introduction, and Last
Gladiators Pinball is ridiculously addictive to the point of lunacy.
Panzer Saga feels like an ideal candidate for digital distribution, since
it's been praised to highly and so few have played it.
-KKC, installing Windows Server 2008. This'll be fun.

4. Sega Worldwide Soccer 97
3. Athlete Kings
2. Steep Slope Sliders

I don't like TBRPGs or 2D fighters (or 2D fighters pretending to be 3D
fighters), so my choices are extremely limited. I keep my Saturn just
for Sega Rally. Still perfect after all these years.

I don't think I've even played 5 Saturn games, but it's a slight
improvement on NES. Anyway, here's what I recall:
1. Sega Rally
2. Street Fighter Alpha 2
3. Panzer Dragoon Zwei
4. Legend of Oasis (only played for 10 mins, mind)
5. Erm, that's it.
There may have been more around the time of Panzer Dragoon Zwei but I
can't remember. It's when I worked security and this one site in
Halifax was the choice venue as someone kept their Saturn and all their
porn vids there, but I was only there a couple of times. Bah.
And my uni mate's brother still owes me all his possessions which he bet
on the outcome of a single race on Sega Rally. The cocky little shite.

Now it all becomes clear why you've been having so many difficulties
with Mario 64. It's actually the first game you've ever played, isn't it? :)

not really, you're just seeing seven games because of the awesomeness of

They rank on my top ten, just below Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Bulk Slash. I
could easily sit and name my favourite thirty Saturn games without missing
a breath, being that inspired by the library.

I did have a bit of a gap in the uni years, but nothing that major ;)
Going to Galaxy straight after 64 is an absolute breath of fresh air,
though, /everything/ just works. I'm getting more used to the 64 camera,
but I still think it makes things needlessly difficult to judge all too
often. Case in point, first Bowser castle I'm going for the 8 red coins
(not sure if it's any use on there), and the one by the see saws is
giving me no end of grief because I've misjudged the jump every time
because I can't really see where I'm going with much precision. Also
grabbing hold of the owl on Cool Cool mountain was again an exercise in
random leaping about. It's not game breaking, but it's fucking annoying.

I'll say it completely breaks whatever system someone might come up with
to tally this lot, to the point where I'd ignore your entry myself. If
you're not going to bother to give a hint at ordering, at least keep it
to 5 so someone can make a guess.

I would rank Sonic R somewhere at the bottom of the top twenty myself, and
apart from the music I think it's a superior game overall. There's an
argument (borne out by Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Sonic Rivals) that
Sonic in 3D should really be done in the context of a racing game. Absent
an immediate urge to go fast, many reviewers attempted to look at the 3D
Sonic games as a 'collect all the rings' platformers rather than properly
as 'get to the end as fast as possible' platformers.

cut-and-paste text reuse.

Ah, see, it's an old game, but I seem to recall that when difficulties
in knowing where to leap or fire yourself at, there were usually
geometric pointers in the landscape you could use as guides. Look
closely, they are in there and then you understand the genius of the
level design combating the shit tech of the camera.

Sonic Adventure was perfect. A couple of playthroughs a bit slowly to
learn the levels, and now I can race through them all comfortable. If
they were to make the game as fast as it should be, but make it a
race-style game, they would have to make the levels insanely boring for
you to not die every ten seconds on the first 50 goes. Sonic R didn't
work because the viewpoint/pad/control combo was horrible and it was
just so unbelievably slow.
I can get through Emerald Coast in 1:30-1:40ish, but the first time I
did it was probably eight minutes or more. Learning the best routes,
jumps and timings was the fun bit.

Burning Rangers was amazing. Sadly, because it needed a Dreamcast to run on,
it ended up looking like a mess, and was difficult to control. If any game
from the Saturn needs a re-imagining, it's Burning Rangers.
But please, let someone competent do it. Fuck off, Sega.

Next week we're doing the Vectrex, followed by the Oric Atmos, Acorn
Atom, Colecovision, MSX, 3DO, PCEngine and the Jaguar.
Surely you've owned one of them?
And you've no excuse for not owning a Saturn, they cost about £5
nowadays and the games can be picked up for peanuts (with the exception
of Panzer Saga which you will have to remortgage your house to buy!)

I consider my console collection to be fairly expansive, and the only
one of those I've ever had is a Jag. Which I've still got, have had for
a couple of years, own 6 games for and have never turned it on. I've
never actually played on one.

I have five out of the nine that DBSnappa lists. As a Jag owner, you owe
it to yourself to play the proper version of Tempest 2000 with the
dynamically generated music, at at least one round of the original Iron
Soldier. If I recall correctly, you don't have the CD attachment?
You're not really missing out for not having the other consoles. The best
of the PC Engine library is showing up on the Wii Virtual Console, ported
MSX games ended up better on the NES or the Megadrive, and the best of the
3DO gems were ported forward to the other 32-bit machines already. Also,
GCE released the entire first-party Vectrex library into the public
domain, so there's no excuse for you not to try emulated versions of those
games at some point.
-KKC, who wonders if anybody is keeping a tally of the Saturn rankings.

I don't. And I have neither of the games you mention. I've got Doom,
Theme Park, Syndicate, Pitfall and a couple of others that I can't remember.

Ah, you've got the dregs of the library. If I recall correctly, Doom is
especially bad because it runs in a bordered window. How can you not have
a copy of Tempest 2000? It's not only the single-most common game, but
easily the best reason for owning the console. I'm betting your other two
games are Cybermorph and Checkered Flag.
Jag games aren't region coded. I have half a mind to dig through my box of
spares and send you a pile of loose carts.

You really should play it with a rotary controller, too. - It becomes
twice the game.

Cyber-something, perhaps, but not Morph. And not Checkered (or even
chequered) Flag. Feel free to send me things :)

Cybermorph is more common than Tempest in the UK at least. Not surprising
since pretty much every Jaguar came with a copy.
Having said that, I have two copies of it, and two of Tempest. But then, I
have two Jaguars.
As an aside, if you pronounce it "jag-warr" or "jag-wire" you need to be shot.

Yes, especially since the correct pronunciation is "jayg-hooer"

I feel left out. Over here, you hardly ever see them, and if you do,
they cost a fortune. And the shipping costs from the UK don't really
help either.

I remember trading in our SNES Console & collection of game to get a Saturn
with about 5 games, the sales REP at CEX had a big grin on his face. Oh I
love hindsight !!

Cannon Fodder and Double Dragon. Only two of the most famous games
ever, what a 'tard.
