I Was Skeptical Buying A GP2X Game System, But...
I had seen mentions of the older unit the GP32 but it wasn't very fast
but then they came out with the GP2X with dual CPUs (200mhz).

The GP2X is a handheld game system and video/audio/pic player that
runs on Linux (great for the hackers out there, plus open source
development). It can play Xvid/Divx/Mp3/Ogg/Jpeg/etc.

There are many emulators for this system that I have tested since I
finally bought one. You can emulate majority of games from the
following consoles: Super Nintendo (Nintendo originals too), Neo Geo
(also NeoGeo Pocket), Game Boy Advanced (also GameBoy Color and Mono),
Sega Genesis (Master system and Game Gear too), 999+ arcades (MAME),
TurboGraphix, C64 and Atari 2600. These are just the emulators I tried
out with sample roms I found on emulator sites. I had good luck with
about 80% of the roms I got for game play average (about 20% were not
useable on the GPX2, but they are useable with PC based emulators in
WIndows).

A few complaints:

-Alot of setting up and collecting involved, but a few games comes
with it if you don't have the time to emulate.
-Can;t watch photos and listen to music at the same time
-Photo viewer doesn't randomize images and show a new pic every X
minutes
-Speakers are not very loud (Is this thing stereo or mono?)
-Rubber flaps that water seal the ports are kinda cheap and flimsy
(come out easy)
-Have to tweak video player (overclocking CPU) to get most DivX
downloads to play smooth
-Always seeking an application that is better designed or plays more
formats
-Photo player has bad color, photos look a bit over "oranged"

If you only want this for playing movies, get a Phillips portable DVD
player (some have SD card slot or USB port for thumb drives) instead,
it will do everything this thing does (except not hackable) except run
games and software (like emulators), it's just for watching movies/
videos (most AVI and Mpeg files play from torrents or sites). I own
one and I am very happy with it, I got the GP2X mostly for the OLD
SCHOOL games that take me back to my child hood.

I love my GP2X for games emulation, ok as a MP3 player, but I have a
cheap MP3player thats the size of a keychain.
