6 yr old gamecube starting to....
I haven't a clue. Could be the drive unit, laser or something.....
I have always taken it to be a normal function of the console. You know
you're playing and occasionally you hear a click but nothing happens and the
game carries on playing.
The only problem I ahd was with a AR 1.06 disc that wouldn't load no matter
how many times you put it in, the GC couldn't read it. Replacement to a
1.12 disc sorted that one out mind you.
Now though especially with the Resident Evil games when it comes to loading
a new area or coming back out from pausing the game to go get something to
drink or a bathroom break. You come back and it brings up that "An error
has occurred..."
Maybe my GC is getting too old and long in the tooth now. Be 6 years or so
old this year. I know the Rev is out this year I hope, so not sure if I
want to fork out for a new console at the moment but ain't that sure how
reliable 2nd are. Probably just cope and see if this lasts until the Rev
comes out.
Either that or it's these 2nd games. Ugh... Never had a problem playing my
own games yet.

To answer my own question, no it hasn't. It was released in Japan in 2001.
Yours therefore can't be six years old.
That reminds me, I'll have to get my three year old PS3 fixed soon. ;)

I know it may seem I'm being pedantic, and probably am....but jeesus mate,
you're a whole year and a half out - I thought I was going crazy when I read
your "six years". It was released in Japan on September 14th 2001 - so at
the *very* most, *if* you have a Japanese model, it is no more than 4.5
years old. If it's not a Jap unit, then you're probably about 2 years out.

Rather than get yourself worked up, why not just read what he wrote? "6
years or so", meaning "it's around 6 years" not meaning "it's definitely
6 years old".

A year and a half is a pretty wide margin. Who's "worked up"? I certainly

So if someone said to you terrorists flew planes into the world trade centre
about 3 years ago, you'd not feel inclined to point out that they're, like,
nearly a year and a half out? You have to admit, that's some margin of
error.
Also, the guy now has this cleared up for him....and as a result, he has a
better idea how old his Cube actually is.

Hey, it got people to read the post. :) Which is what I wanted. So it
worked. Come on, give me some credit here. :) Actually it's only 3 years
old but hey... My question and problem still stands.

Yeh by posting exact details you got detailed responses regarding your
actual problem. It worked really well.

PMSL. I've been reading these boards for years. Pot calling the kettle is an
understatement. I just nearly spat coffee on the monitor...LOL.

Have you hammered it in that time? Perhaps, TBH, seeing as though you can
get a good few bargains now, you'd be best getting a new one? I saw pearl
white Cubes with Mario Football going for about £35... or sum'at daft... the
other week....in Makro. Bargain! :)
I still have a 26 year old SNES going strong, they certainly don't build
them like they used to.

Haven't been reading long enough to learn that they're not 'boards'
though.

No, but it did back in 2003 took a trip down with me to Portsmouth. Main
problem I dont have a Makro card. I wonder if Costco sells them cheap, I do
have someone in my family that has a card for them. Hmm, should look into
that.

Heh, I remember my brother's SNES dying out within a year. Blue fuse on the
mainboard. Didn't take long for Nintendo to fix it however so he was happy.
Moved onto the Playstation though now the poor soul. :p Mind you, he's
only into the Fifa games so it's not hard to figure out why. Ugh.
