Hi,

What type of disk should I use, DVD+R or _R?
Or even something else?

Thanx for your answer,

I suggest a Gamecube disc.

Traditionally, tape is the preferred backup medium (DAT, DLT etc) due to
its resilience:cost ration. Disk is getting cheaper, though, so a nice
big 200Gb external firewire jobbie will do nicely.

Oh - sorry - you weren't actually talking about backups, you were
talking about being a thieving pikie bastard!

Re: backup, newbee question
Always use DVD_R, whatever they are.

Seriously - I can forgive you being a newbie but your short post leaves
us with nothing to go on

a) backing up what?

b) on what device?

c) to do what with

and finally yes, it's probably not this newsgroup. Backing up gamecube
games is really a bit of a waste of time, for reasons I'm not going to
go into..

Aw, come on, some love to just rob and copy the games they go and rent at
Blockbuster or some other rental store. :) On a off topic issue, I looked
at DAT/DLT backup but the initial cost is too high for me to do so stuck
with dvd-+ or ram :)

Well you got loads of abuse mate which is just rude. So to ill sort you out
as i now feel sorry for you. Dont rip your own games, you need the gamecibe
network addon and its a pain to find one and slow ti rip apparently.

Download em and burn to ritek/ridisk dvdr- g04 or g05 media. Grab an £11
case top that lets you use full size dvds, you will have nothing but grief
with the 8cm ones. Case can be brought at www.cheapmod.net and games
downloaded from http://gctracker.mine.nu:800/torrents-search.php

Also you might want to tweak the laser power as described on
http://modthatcube.pxn-os.org/

Have fun not getting shafted by ripoff britain.

It is against this newsgroup's charter to discuss the backing up of games.
So not so much rude as justified. Usually people are expected to abide by
the rules of the forum within which they are posting, which neither the
original poster nor you are doing.

Er, well maybe some would _like_ people to "abide by the rules of the
forum", but I hardly think anyone actually expects them to...

Anyway, if the original poster was being a twat, of course people will
tell him so.

no there aren't.

there are several replies stating that piracy discussion is
discouraged in the ng, and a couple of tongue in cheek replies calling
the OP a pikie.

hardly savage abuse.

There's nothing in the rules forbidding it, in fact.

Pikey is a word I personally never use as it is a pejorative term used by

It used to be. But then again, 'gay' used to mean 'happy', so it looks
as if words don't always keep their original exact meaning over time.

To the other repliers I like to "say":

It's not illegal to back-up a game, so eat your heart out!

I wouldn't bother, if I were you. We're quite happy as we are.

I'll just point out that it is, in fact, illegal to back up a game, and
set followups so that the charter isn't broken any more than it is already.
