Component on UK PAL Cube
Anyone here running there pal cube with a component cable? If so
where's the audio out as the cable just seems to have the 3 standard
component phono sockets. And will the component cable work on any cube
or just the ones with the digital AV out? I've read that the only
cubes that come with digital AV outs are ones made pre 2004 but my
resident evil 4 platinum cube had digital AV out. Can anyone confirm
that all the resident evil 4 platinum cubes have digital AV as I'm
thinking of buying a new cube.
Also if I put a qoob or a viper chip in my cube, can I run force
original PAL games to 480p?
Thanks

It doesn't have any audio out. You have to continue to use your existing
solution...in my case, a scart cable that has its sound split out to an amp.
So you end up with both digital and analog video leads attached at the same
time.
Remember that a UK cube will only do component with US/JP games that support
it (freeloader works fine in my case, the Cube isn't modded).

Re: Component on UK PAL Cube
You simply use the Analogue AV Out port for your audio, just don't
connect the analogue video :)
I've never seen every RE4 Cube, so I've no idea if they all have the
Digital AV out port.

I know nothing of chipping, I imported a US NTSC cube, so I can run most
of my games in 480p without any faffing about...

The UK cube came with RCA composite and stereo audio cables as standard, so
owners can dig out the original cables and whack them straignt into an amp.

you mean progressive scan with US/JAP games, as the Component cable is an
official PAL product, the UK cube is designed do component out in 480i.

I did indeed. Sorry for any confusion.

just spotted my mistake, as the UK cube no longer has the digital port, so
component 480i only applies to older models, which may still be sold in
Australia as their TVs tend to have components as the high end connection
(no scarts)

As far as I'm aware the component cable is not an official PAL product,
ISTR that it was only available in Japan and the US with the other
digital cable with the funny mini VGA shaped connector. of course I
could be wrong but when I was buying stuff to make an RGB SCART lead I
had to import the cable that connects to the digital out on my
Gamecubes.

I believe all new Gamecubes are missing the digital out port. It was
removed becuase only 3% of people used it or something, well that was
the justification that Nintendo gave. If purchasers in the US (and I
assume Japan) need a digital out they can write to Nintendo to exchange
their new console for one with the digital out port.

but that leaves Australian cube owners and some Asian countries with
composite as the only choice, at least the US got S-video and Europe Scart
RGB.

yeah it was officially sold in Australia for the PAL cube, it used to be on
the Aussie Nintendo website to purchase. When I was over there all the kit
in the shops (even my non progressive TV) used Component in the way UK
models use Scart (Euro connector), so unless Aussie TVs are coming with
Scart RGB now, then they are stuck with composite. Or they could import a
scart cable and use an RGB to Component convertor.

just checked a few sites , seems they are getting scart sockets on tvs
nowadays, so theyll no doubt get the cube with no digital too.

....as I did with my PS2, but mainly for DVD's although it does give some
games a big boost. The sound seems more than adequate with sound coming
from just the TV speakers when playing the 'cube though.
Because I'm happy with the set-up I never bothered to look if you could
have a split-unput in to the stereo, although I suspect you'd need two
audio inputs on the actual stereo.
Anyone know if that's possible? My amp and proper speakers are just too
good for me to mess around with them...
Cheers,
Rob
