Merrick Leaves Nintendo
Hereto known as The Day Revolution News Died. Full story.
by Matt Casamassina
Late last year we reported that Nintendo of Europe's Jim Merrick had
left the subsidiary to return to the States, where it was presumed that
he would take a position with the American branch. However, more recent
news confirms that Merrick will, in fact, be departing Nintendo
altogether to pursue other interests. No details were specified.
"After nearly 12 years with Nintendo, the last three of which were at
Nintendo of Europe, Jim Merrick has left the company to pursue other
opportunities," a spokesperson for Nintendo of America confirmed. "We
thank him for his many years of valuable service and wish him luck in
his future endeavors."
Merrick has long been an integral member of the Nintendo team. He is
perhaps best known as the one-time technical director on "Project
Dolphin," the early codename for GameCube. But Merrick is also familiar
to IGN readers as the important other half of Perrin Kaplan's Jedi duo.
Together, the two dodged dozens upon dozens of pointed questions
related to GameCube over the years.
A few years ago Merrick left Nintendo of America to take over marketing
responsibilities for the company's European subsidiary. He quickly
became an outspoken source of information - oftentimes divulging
details about Nintendo games and hardware when others wouldn't. This
truth was best evidenced after the Tokyo Game Show 2005, when Merrick
candidly pulled back the curtain on a number of Revolution elements,
from the console's Bluetooth-enabled relationship with the innovative
controllers to a global release time frame for the machine.
IGN is sorry to see Jim leave the Big N and we wish him the best of
luck wherever he lands.

Jim Merrick Leaves Nintendo
Outspoken marketing exec moves onto other opportunities.
Nintendo is notoriously quiet about their secrets, yet Nintendo of
Europe senior director of marketing Jim Merrick was always the fanboy
savior, delivering enough tasty morsels of information about the
company's future when everyone else was quiet to gain himself a
reputation.
All good things must come to an end, and though Merrick only recently
left his post at Nintendo of Europe this past December to return to
Nintendo of America, but he was never appointed a position. Instead,
he's leaving Nintendo altogether to pursue other opportunities.
"After nearly 12 years with Nintendo, the last three of which were at
Nintendo of Europe, Jim Merrick has left the company to pursue other
opportunities," reads a company statement on Merrick's departure. "We
thank him for his many years of valuable service and wish him luck in
his future endeavors."
No reasons were given for Merrick leaving.
Where else will we get our leaked tidbits? For now, no one knows, but
Nintendo fans will understandably need some time to themselves. At
least Nintendo's supposed to finally come clean on Revolution at E3.

Merrick Leaves Nintendo
Former Nintendo Europe director leaves Nintendo despite earlier plans
to go to Nintendo of America...
Back in December TVG reported that Nintendo Europe Senior Marketing
Director Jim Merrick would be leaving after three years in charge to
re-join Nintendo of America. Reports on Gamasutra however have today
confirmed that Merrick will now be leaving Nintendo entirely.
"Today Nintendo officially announced that Jim Merrick, who held the
position of Nintendo's software engineering manager, Nintendo network
marketing manager, and most recently was managing director of sales and
marketing for Nintendo Europe has left the company," said a Nintendo
statement. "After nearly 12 years with Nintendo, the last three of
which were at Nintendo of Europe, Jim Merrick has left the company to
pursue other interests."
Jim Merrick's replacement at Nintendo Europe has yet to be appointed
though Nintendo's statement last month suggested that the position will
be filled within weeks.

Changes At Nintendo
This week in Movers Nintendo Europe's Jim Merrick left Nintendo instead
of coming to NoA as was expected;
It was announced in earlier December that Nintendo of Europe senior
marketing director Jim Merrick was leaving NoE to return to Nintendo of
America. Although NoA had not yet released an official announcement,
NoE confirmed the move.
"Jim joined Nintendo of Europe three years ago on a short term contract
from Nintendo America and is now returning to continue to progress his
career with the company. His replacement will be announced in the
coming weeks," an NoE statement read.
This week Merrick's NoE exit was complete, but was not accompanied by a
return to the company's American subsidiary, as expected. A statement
simply read that he had left "to pursue other interests."

News Article: Merrick Leaves Nintendo
The man who liked talking about Nintendo's plans more than anyone else
won't be doing it anymore.
Jim Merrick has been working for Nintendo for almost 12 years, and
today he's calling it quits. The former marketing head of Nintendo
Europe was slated to return to Nintendo of America, but apparently he
had second thoughts and decided to leave altogether.
The official company line? "After nearly 12 years with Nintendo, the
last three of which were at Nintendo of Europe, Jim Merrick has left
the company to pursue other opportunities," says a spokesperson for
Nintendo.
Nintendo fans might remember Merrick as being the only one in the
Nintendo executive chain to actually speak out on their next-gen plans.
More importantly, he oversaw the launch of the DS hardware across the
European territories.
PGC wishes Mr. Merrick all the best for his future!

NOE's Merrick Departs Nintendo
Despite announcing in December plans to move to Nintendo of America,
Nintendo of Europe senior marketing director Jim Merrick has left the
company entirely.
Originally, Merrick said that he was returning to Nintendo of America,
the branch where he began service to the company, in order to be closer
to his family after his 3-year short-term contract with Nintendo of
Europe expired.
No replacement has yet been named for Merrick at Nintendo of Europe,
where he played a large role in the launch of the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi
Connection. Nintendo said that a replacement for Merrick would be
announced shortly.
