yet another DS model in the works ?
New Nintendo DS Hidden Secret?

February 25, 2006

by: Logan Predy

BREAKING: Recent patent reveals a special secret about a new Nintendo
DS model.
A new patent published by the US Patent & Trademark Office for Nintendo
Co. Ltd. on Feb. 2nd, 2006 has revealed an interesting new DS model.

Seeing as how the patent was originally drafted on Jul 29, 2004, and
filed on July 19, 2005, there is no real way of telling whether the DS
model featured in the patents is simply a prototype for the DS/DS Lite
or a third DS model. The patent could theoretically have been edited by
Nintendo in some way since the initial drafting as well. The important
thing is the functionality mentioned in the patent. First off, here is
the patent illustration of the new DS:

As you can see, this resembles no other DS model that has been
announced. Additionally, the cartridges used for the system resemble SD
cards much more than the current DS game cards, and the "X" and "Y"
buttons have been removed.

What's even more interesting is what it says in the description of the
new DS model:

"A game apparatus includes a touch panel on which at least two pointing
positions are simultaneously detectable."

So, either the DS Lite will have multiple touch functions that have yet
to be announced, or another DS is in the works to be launched at some
point after the DS Lite.

Be sure to check out the extra Media for this article, because there
are further pictures there detailing how some aspects of the
multi-touch functionality will work. Also, the original patent can be
viewed using the Source link below.

AMN will keep you updated on any other details about this system as
they arise.

This should not be confused with either the next-gen GameBoy, nor the
next-gen DS.
both of which are obviously in development right now. the above
article, patents and illustrations seem to be for a variation on the
current DS, like the upcoming DS Lite, but with perhaps more features.
or it could simply be patents for a version of DS that never saw the
light of day.

regardless, Nintendo is working on DS 2 even if we don't see it for 3-5
years.

Oh, I forgot all about the DS-Lite in my previous post.

Now, something maybe after the DS-Lite too?

Not to mention the next-gen Gameboy whenever it arrives.

"Damn you Nintendo, quit making cool new stuff!", speaks the wallet.

Re: yet another DS model in the works ?
yeah so we've got

DS (2004)

DS Lite (2006)

this other *possible* new revision of DS (2007 ? or never)

and futher off in the distance, the next-generation DS

it makes sense, because look at GameBoy Advance

Game Boy Advance (2001)
Game Boy Advance SP (2003)
Game Boy Advance SP newer version with better screen (2005 ?)
Game Boy (Advance) Micro (2005)

next-generation GameBoy (2007-2008)

its probably just another prototype design they came up with and
thought was worth patenting.

just cos something gets a patent doesn't mean it'll ever be made you
know ;)

Yes, it's terrible how these gaming companies release new consoles all
the time. Money grabbing bastards! They should give it all away for
free and never create a new console ever!

We should have all been using the NES even today. And *maybe* the
original GameBoy, although releasing two consoles for two markets is
disgustingly greedy too.
