All,

Well, when I said that I wouldn’t be running any events in August it
turns out that I lied.

Of course, I didn’t know that the fine folk at Wizards were going to
introduce a new type of event called a “Game Day” and plan to hold the
event of Saturday the 15th of August. I was worried that my Stafford
venue wouldn’t be available on a Saturday but it turns out that on
this occasion, it is. I have been very fortunate in that my Stafford
venue was available on short notice, so I have booked in and scheduled
a Magic 2010 Game Day event on Saturday August the 15th as an
additional date on the calendar.
So with the event sanctioned, I loaded up to go away on holiday for
two weeks and thought to myself “I will e-mail everyone while I’m away
using my laptop and my trusty Vodafone wireless dongle.” Unfortunately
my holiday destination in Dorset was the valley of the damned as far
as network coverage went [my phone on o2 was also down] so I was stuck
with no way to tell all you fine folks about the event until today. So
without further ado:

STAFFORD MAGIC 2010 GAME DAY SATURDAY 15th OF AUGUST 2009 [Yes, this
Saturday]

Wizards have decided to offer a new type of event called a ‘Game Day’
to be run one month after the release of each Magic set, starting with
Magic: 2010. The idea of the event is to offer you the chance to play
with the new cards using Standard constructed decks outside of the
usual FNM format. The event offers unique participation and top 8
foils and looks on paper a lot like County Champs events really. I’m
going to charge £10 for the event and offer a nice prize pool as
usual. I would like feedback from players at the event to help to
determine the prize pool at future Game Day events. I’m going to use
this event as a trial run and hopefully attract a reasonable
attendance despite the short notice and the time of year.

Event notes

[1] This event is limited to 50 players so please make sure that you
pre-register to guarantee your place.

[2] We will be continuing to use deck registration at all Standard
constructed events. Please bring pens with you.

[3] Following the swiss rounds the event will feature a top 8 playoff.

VENUE: Oddfellows Hall, Greengate Street, Stafford, ST16 2HP.

START TIME: Enrolment from 9:30am till 10:30am. Round one will start
at about 11:00am.

FORMAT: The format is DCITM-sanctioned Standard Constructed

Rules Enforcement Level: 24K, Competitive REL

ENTRY FEE: £10.00 for main event

PRIZES:

50 * Naya Sojourner participation promo cards exclusive to Magic Game
Day
8 * Mycoid Shepherd full-art top 8 promo cards exclusive to Magic Game
Day
2 * Mycoid Shepherd full-art promo cards to award as door-prizes
1 * Magic 2010 Game Day Winner’s Certificate

Magic 2010 Boosters added to the prize pool according to player
attendance.


SIDE EVENTS: Booster Draft side events available all day long.

ENTRY FEE:  £10.00 for Booster Drafts (12 Boosters as prizes split
5/3/2/2)

Future Events 2009

September – Saturday 26th – Birmingham – Zendikar Pre Release
September – Sunday 27th – Stafford – Zendikar Pre Release

Zendikar Pre-Releases are scheduled for the end of September. More
details to follow as they are announced.

October – Sunday 4th – Stafford – Zendikar Launch Party

The Zendikar Launch Party event will happen the following weekend at
Stafford. This is the first chance to buy Zendikar singles, boosters,
boxes, intro packs and fat packs.
